I want to buy a base model Accent with the Popular Equipment Package.
- Air conditioning - AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system with auxiliary input jack and 6 speakers
The problem is that, even though I live around the 4th largest city in the USA, Houston, I can't find any dealers selling them. They either sell the base model with no options or models with the Premium Package, which is available only on models with automatic transmission.
- Air conditioning - AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system with auxiliary input jack and 6 speakers - Power windows, mirrors and door locks - Remote keyless entry with alarm and panic alert - Bodycolor mirrors and door handles
I'm fine with the options but absolutely do not want automatic transmission.
This is Houston so I must have A/C.
Will dealers install A/C and stereo on base models? Or, is there anywhere the base model with the Popular Equipment Package is commonly sold?

I haven't looked lately to see what the dealers are stocking around here. It sounds like it was much simpler when I bought mine (the 4-door was the only one they sold for 2006 and you either wanted premium sport or you didn't, then pick the desired transmission.) There is an A/C kit available from Hyundai, but it is pricey for parts alone then you have to add labor charges on top of that. You could pick up an aftermarket radio to throw in there if you wanted, the wiring and speakers are already there... just get a mounting kit and wiring harness adapter. I didn't know the fully loaded ones only came with an automatic... they didn't use to do that. I was one of the few who wanted the automatic. Are ya 100% sold on the hatch? The 2008 sedan comes standard with A/C and the AM/FM/CD/XM/aux in radio. All you would need to do then is find one with the manual, should be easy. A little more expensive than the hatch but the sedan has more features.

QUOTE(isaac1909 @ Jun 12 2008, 06:08 AM) I thought the pop. equipment package was floor mats, a/c and a cd player. Because that's what I got and mine's an 08.
That's what I got with the auto on my 07. Here they sell more of the popular package than the premium, and about a 60/40 split on auto./stick. If they don't have what you want the call around till thry find one and give you a price up front. :57:

Seems we all had problems locating our SE's with manual. I searched inventory of many, many dealers around me but had no luck finding what I wanted. Then I went looking at other dealers sites (internet inventory searches) in nearby states. The only way I was able to find Exactly what I wanted was to get my local dealer do a nationwide search, then I ended up buying my car 600 miles away. I went to pick it up myself and escaped the $1000.00 fee my local dealer was going to charge me for someone DRIVING, not trucking it, in.
Go with the manual, if you like manual transmissions, the automatic trans really steals the engines thunder in this car.

Same happened to me except they didn't charge me the fee and they drove it, them charging you to get the car you want is crazy...
