I just bought a used 2001 Santa Fe and I'm generally happy with it - with the exception of the beep it makes when the door is locked and unlocked which I'm finding increasingly annoying. (I KNOW I just unlocked the door. It isn't necessary to notify my neighbors. Sorry, I guess I'm more annoyed than I thought). Is there a way to disable this without disabling the horn altogether and without taking it to a mechanic? I've searched the site and haven't seen this question addressed before. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

What beep are you referring to? Hyundai has never had a car where when you pressed the unlock button it made a noise, just flashed the parking lights twice. The Santa Fe didn't get a confirmation "chirp" to notify you that it was locked until very late 2003.

Yup, Hyundailuvr87 is right. You must have an aftermarket alarm system in your SF. I have an '04 and it only chirps on the lock cycle if press 'lock' twice in a four-second period. No chirpy-chirp on the unlock cycle, just two flashes of the turn signals.

Thanks so much for your responses. The beep I'm talking about comes from the horn. The car does have a factory installed Hyundai alarm system so maybe the beeps are part of this? It sounds like I need to take it to a Hyundai dealership. Thanks for your help.
