What's the point? Same question one's probably asking when Lexus came out with their auto parallel parking car. And then Hyundai comes out with their commercial, "for a few thousand dollars less, you can have someone (valet) park your car." That was hilarious.

For a few thousand dollars less, you can put some effort into unlocking and starting your own car.

I must say, my friend has one, it's pretty cool. He just carry's around the key fob, and when he's near the car, it automatically or he can unlock all the doors by pressing a button on the outside, and start the car by pressing a button on the inside. Now, if the techology was that he didn't have to press any buttons at all, then that'd be pretty sweet!

I'm not sure I agree that it is hilarious. Theft bothers me, a lot.

I was laughing at this quote:

Just be glad that most thieves aren't bored enough to steal a Hyundai and consider it a "perk" of buying a car that isn't exactly a top seller.

Man, that's a messed up situation. Thanks for linking that. Yeah, I feel for anybody who's ever had their car stolen. We had our car stolen because we left it warming up unattended in the morning, stupid I know. I was on jury duty for a stolen car case and some people on the pre-selection group were very anrgy and hurtful about having experienced it (several times).

I guess in some weird way, maybe it's a downside that it's a Hyundai, cause possibly you're less concerned, if you will, then say an expensive BMW. A $20-23K vehicle (or $20K whatever) is still a lot of money however.

I like that Honda has more anti-theft features on their cars than Hyundai. Never felt anything wrong that the Sonata doesn't have wheel lock or immobilizer or radio anti-theft, etc. It's an excellently packaged car at an excellent price. Plus it's a Hyundai! Who cares about theft right?

What has lingered on my mind however is that whatever car I buy I might put an alarm on it. Just because. And thus the reason for possibly purchasing a Hyundai, so that I can use the other money for other features.

A $150-500 alarm will save you from most casual thieves simply because it's annoying and increases the chance they will get caught.

Spend an extra $50 and have a siren mounted INSIDE the car. 130db in a mostly enclosed area hurts, and will deter even a more eager thief.

Sorry I havent replied, I've been out of town. I had a SRT10 Truck and it had one. You still put the key in the ignition. This was the older type and I like them, they are inexpensive. The benefit of one? There isnt one, its just kool and I have a few sitting around the house. My vehicle has keyless entry and an alarm. I'm not looking for security. I'll pull the diagram and figure out a way. The new type(without having to have key, FOB for instance) is great, but I am not going to mess with that

Doesn't the Kia Magentis/Optima in Europe have a Push Start Ignition? Perhaps the wiring and/or hardware from the European Optima could be implemented in the Sonata.

Not really sure, I'll look into that. I've got a few diagrams, but have been so busy I havent been able to mess with it. I'm going to try to attack it this long weekend.
