Tommy,
Yes, it can be done. Since you figured out that a locking gas cap is available, try it. Bet that stops your unexplained bad fuel mileage.

QUOTE(sopclod @ Jun 25 2008, 09:54 AM) Yet another reason to drive a small car. If you are looking to steal gas, where are you going to go? An Accent with an 11 gallon tank or a Suburban with a 30 gallon tank? Better yet, if you're looking to puncture someone's gas tank, are you going to try to wedge yourself under an Accent or a Hummer that sits 3feet off the ground? I still see people driving monster trucks that you could comfortably sit under around here, it's ridiculous. Great points! Logic dictates the vehicle with the big tank would be the favored target... Some crooks may not have the common sense to realize that though, we just had somebody on the 3rd gen Accent board get their fuel door ripped off and gas sucked out of their car. What really stinks is when they break into our Accents, the dollar amount of damage done during the process of breaking in (they will likely end up breaking the fuel door/etc) will exceed the value of the gas they get out. :crying:

QUOTE(AksentOner @ Jun 27 2008, 01:32 AM) locking gas caps keep honest people honest , the can easily be opened with a hammer and a screw driver , thats why i didnt get a locking gas cap . the autoparts store i go to told me its a waste of money , i just hope this keeps away gas theft for you .... good luck :) Good point and very true BUT like electricity thieves seek the path of least resistance. There are a lot of cars for them to pick, with a small decal on the filler door and a locking cap being used the bad guy will usually skip you and go to someone else. Maybe. -tr

Hi, The theft of fuel is becoming more of a problem noww that oil prices are (still) rising. This product was originally designed for HGV's (Trucks) but is now available for standard cars. http://www.truckprotect.com/instantfit.htm Regards, Shaun
