:) Thanks. But my challenge still stands. If you can do better with mixed city / hwy driving than 38.7 MPGs using engine brake and coasting in gear I want to hear from you.

My wife, in her winter mixed city, stop & go highway, & straight highway averaged about 32 MPG. It picked up a bit when the weather warmed. When I drove, putting about a third of a tank driving the highway to her mom's place, the tank got as high as 35MPG. I didn't think your challenge could be equalled.
As reported in other threads here, I was able to put mileage on her Accent in drives to the mountains & up 1400, 3000, 4000, & 5500 foot mountain passes. I started hitting 41.5, 42.6 & 45.1 MPG.
Still, I would find your challenge tough, depending how slow & chocked full of traffic lights & traffic your driving has. The problem is, I drive like you, coasting when I can.
