curious.

i'm kinda thinking so, myself.

we all know hyundai's historically have crappy resale value, but, imo the current generation hyundai's (including our accents) look WORLDS better than the last ones, so that right there should help... but now with gas the way it is, you think we'll see better resale values in 3-5+ years?

maybe some of the older members here will have some better input on the subject if they lived through the 70's oil crisis. did smaller econo cars, even of lesser (real or perceived) brands, hold their value better due to fuel efficiency?

we don't have record breaking mpg in our cars, but it is pretty good! heck, 16 year old geo metros are selling for more than they were NEW! our cars don't quite get that kind of fuel economy, but they're way better looking.

It's very possible our resale will go up, at least in the short term! People are throwing down mad money for 1990's-vintage econo boxen these days! Meanwhile, SUV drivers desparate to dump their behemoths are finding themselves tens of thousands of dollars in the hole. :whistling:

Check this article out:

QUOTE
Some of the nerdiest-looking cars in recent automotive history are making a comeback, at least in resale value, as a growing number of value-driven drivers put gas thriftiness ahead of image.

Early-1990s econoboxes such as Ford Festiva, Hyundai Excel and Geo Metro — once the punch line of jokes — have seen their used car prices climb from giveaway levels as low as $1,100 a few months ago to upward of $6,000 today, Kelley Blue Book says.

The Excel really wasn't even that good on gas as far as I can remember, our cars can do a little better and are lightyears ahead of it in every imaginable way to boot... If prices for those are going up we could very well be in a good place. :) I checked my kbb values though, despite having an immaculate car I'm below $10,000 on everything but dealer retail value. Bummer, but good thing since I'm hanging on to this puppy! Downsizing into a small car like this turned out to be a wise decision.

I'm hoping it will help our resale value in the future. I think our value will maybe go up in a few years. It seems like old civics and corollas from the early 90's still have pretty good resale.

my gf mazda 3 gets 500 km to the tank and its a 2.3. our cars should get double that but hyundai screwed the pooch on maximising economy because they are retarded. there is little doubt that the cars will gain any value due to the known fact that with in a few years the planet will be in serious ****

Nobodies, tell us how you really feel, no need to hold back man!

They could do better on gas, sure... But they could be much, much worse. Like that Hummer that was tailgating me on the way home, really **** at me because I was sticking to the speed limit like glue regardless of how close he got his machomanlymobile to my back bumper. :P I was getting 38 per the SG at the time, that's a **** of a lot better than what he was getting. We may not be in Prius territory, but we're still better than a lot of other new vehicles.

im serious. i dont completly believe it but read up on december 21 2012. opened my eyes a little. most of it is crap but some of it is plausable... way off topic. ill start another thread sorry ewing.

and i bet the hummer was getting a nice draft off you. at 100 feet behind a semi you get a 7% increase in fe. at 10 feet your pretty much just holding your foot at 3000 rpm and moving really fast, mythbusters... love that show

You know what I just thought of? I think I found something to fill in the blank space where my back seat used to be. A low profile 5-10 Gallon fuel cell. And to kinda have it blend in with the carpeting Ima have done. That way I can maximize my trips to the gas station to maybe once a month. Know what I mean? Of course the fill ups will be more but a gravity pump could be put in place to drain from the fuel cell to the main tank, to avoid putting in another electrip pump. Or even a low flow PSI pump could be put in to feed from the cell, to the main tank. I am gonna look into that to see what all it would involve in doing so, and to make sure I dont blow myself up with the power from the 2 subs I have now. Lol.

Well I was just on Summit Racing and found a Low profile Aluminum Fuel Cell that is 17 Gallons, and only $240. But they have sizes ranging from 1-20 Gallons. I think I may call them up tomorrow tell them what I want to do and see if they can steer me in the right direction. I will update tomorrow on what they say.

As long as carrying around the extra weight from the fuel tank and fuel doesn't have that great of a negative impact on fuel economy you may be on to something. I have to fill up around every 300 since the gauge is getting really low by then, more would be nice to have. BUT it's great only putting 8-9 gallons in at the current pricing. BUT then again I'm filling up more often! It all evens out I guess.

it'll cost less to haul less weight and fill up more often - UNLESS fuel rises really rapidly and you're hedging against higher prices for a couple weeks. even if so, you'd never save enough to pay off the cost of the fuel cell.

the ONLY reason to do a mod like this is if you're going to make a trip where there're no gas stations for 1000miles.

It really isn't that much more weight added to the car. With all the stripping of the interior I have done it would kinda make up for it. That and I also make a 1300 mile round trip to Las Vegas about 4-5 times a year. Which would actually help in travel time, and less fill up's.

You'd spend less time at the stops for sure ,but it could be dangerous IF you were to have an accident as fuel cells are meant to replace the tank not as an addition to.
Besides I don't have the bladdr for 300 mile sprints much less 500 mile sprints.LOL :whistling:

with a full 17gallon fuel cell you'd be hauling about an extra 150lbs all the time... that's sure to affect fuel economy.

1300miles round trip to vegas? when i drove to vegas a few summers back it was 1400miles... each way.

CR... i dont know what to say... your kinda going a little too far with the fuel cell. not to mention that its illegal to carry or store gas inside the passenger compartment or ANY vehicle in a cell or not. if you were to get rear ended you would probly leak gas every where and one spark and you would be dead.

if you want to test how much less fe you would get put 200 pounds of weights in your car and drive around for a month to get an average. find out how mush fuel you burn per mile and transfer that to weight then remove as needed. still with me? then figure out mpg and add what fuel you would have used to the weight you had. then you will see if you gained any benifits other than a cool fuel cell and sweeet fuel delivery system
