Had my timing belt changed and 180000km serviced at the same time.
- also changed 2 tensioners
Brakes disassembled and greased,
ventilatorbelt changed
cabinfilter - 2 Pcs??? - as far as i know there is only one...
Engine oil and filter changed.
Sparks not changed, neither air-filter (uses k&n)
9 hours in labour - it seems like they have added, hmm... some extra hours, as far as i can see.
How long time should it take?
Ordinary service - max 2 hours
Timing belt ?
It cost me approx 1900$
Anyone knows.

Well it seems that nobody have had their timing belt changed?
Anyone remember to have had a 7 hours labour bill for this job?

Dear hdsit,

In the US, most mechanics have a reference book listing the hours to charge for the different removal and installation repairs on every car in the model line for a dealer. This is called 'book time'. Most mechanics can meet or exceed the book time for a repair, but this is the traditional cost standard that is used.

I think the book time for your timing belt change in the US is 2.25 hours.

Can your mechanic provide a detailed invoice for the charges? this will show the hours charged for the timing belt, brakes, engine oil, cabin filter, etc. A detailed invoice will also show the costs for the parts. The cabin filter is expensive, as it costs much more than the timing belt.

Well - as mentioned - it was both a reduced 180000 km service (- spark plugs change and air-filter) it should be max 2 hours, more likely 1 hour - and as far as i can see they want to charge me to approx 7 hours for changing the timing belt, that is rated for 2.25 hours... - Well i get the point...

I recently had my timing belt changed on my 02 4 cyl Sonata and had to do the following as well --

Flush brake fluid, service brakes, replace timing tensioner belt, replace balance shaft belt, AC belt, power steering belt.

All this came to $1200 for around 4-5 hrs of work.

I had my timing belt changed on my 02 4 cyl Sonata about a year ago.

They also replaced timing tensioner belt and balance shaft belt, also new coolant and water pump (standard procedure). It took them no more than 3 - 3.5 hours and I payed around $600 for the parts and labour.
