Someone had mentioned on another thread - maybe a Santa Fe thread - that their shock mount nuts weren't torqued to spec, and this caused a bumping sound that went away once the tech torqued the nut to spec. So I also tried the same...

There are thick rubber grommets that hold the inside edge of this plastic cover in place, and isolate any bumping noises... impressive, more attention to detail trying to keep every little thing in the car quiet.

The bushings at the top of the strut assembly are heavy-duty and look like they're made to last.

Top two items are the objects of interest.

No joy. All 4 nuts on both sides were torqued within spec.

However, I am also not experiencing the 'bumping' sound so this might be worth trying for someone who DOES have that noise.

Cheers

Great set of photos in all three threads. Thanks for taking the time. I'm learning a lot.

:)

Funny thing that this topic should be mentioned, but . .

Some time back I wondered if the Kia Amanti was having
this same clunking problem, and guess what? :P

They have a TSB to address this very same problem, and it
calls for the mechanic to torque the top mounting nut to specs! :whistling:

:)

That was my thinking at the time.

The fact that there was a TSB for the Amanti already back then, but no mention of changing
shocks, which as you know does not always correct the Azera problem either.

Mahout reported that they were able to fix the clunking on one customers' Azera
by tightening up on everything, so perhaps Kia does have the correct approach?

Nice looking ride. Can't say as I blame you for trading.

Now you'll be getting pretty good fuel economy!

:)

Is the torque wrench in with the tire tools ? :whistling:

I would surely hope that if it were something as simple as torqueing a bolt that Hyundai would be able to figure that one out and that they would simply re-torque everyones car. If this is the case & they have not.... then I would have to say that they truely suck.
Of course I'm at the point of saying that now. But for the rest of you

Yeah well, like I said, I don't remember exactly where I read that, Santa Fe or Veracruz, and that's just what the service agent told the guy, which very well may have been lost in translation. I found all of mine torqued to spec. At this point, though, the potential utility of me looking for a problem (clunking) that I don't observe in the car is really quite low.

Maybe by the time I hear the clunking, those nuts will have worked their way loose! :P
