My 2002 Elantra died while I was overseas. Apparently it just stopped at the gas station but was able to be jump started. Now I can't even start it with jumpers although have not yet attempted starting running it downhill and engaging in low gear. Any ideas, will a replacement batery sort this out or do I have bigger problems? Have had problems with intermittent clock faults, phantom starting and stopping of the radio and one of the electric window actuators doesn't work.

Appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks

Hello,

How old is the battery anyway? Could be worn out, and check the connectors too, I suggest that u clean both. About power windows: connect the window motor to a separate 12V source to see if it is operational. For changing motor direction I think u should just swap - and +. Hope the window motor is still working and there is only a bad connection.

cheers

Dear beejay,

Not sure what is the age of your battery, but can we assume on a 2002 that you were able to get SIX years from the original. Since you are leading us to believe your problem is electrical, you can get your battery load tested, check both the red and black battery cables at both ends for corrosion or worn connectors, and check the body of the cables for any cuts or shorts.

After you have your battery and cables sorted out, if the no start problem is not fixed you can check your fuse box for any blown fuses. You are currently having problems in 4 areas:

Starter-Engine compartment relay and fuse box, fusible link IGN, 40 amp
Clock-Dash fuse box, #9, 10 amp
Radio-Dash fuxe box, # 9, 10 amp
electric window - Dash fuse box, #9, 10 amp (seeing a trend here)

If there is any chance you armed the alarm (not sure about NZ, but in the U.S. they all have alarms), make sure you charge up the battery, turn OFF the alarm, then try to start the car. If the battery died with the immobilizer set, you have to disable the immobilizer before the car will start.
