Hello. I just purchased a 2001 Accent GS and the 2 brake rear side break lights stay on while driving; but the window light comes on when it's supposed to pressing the break. Anyone have any ideas why the 2 would stay on and the 3rd one works normally? THanks.

Your high mount stop light is operating as per normal you two rear brak lights have either of the following problems.

Do you have driving lights? if so then deactivate them.

Do these brake lights operate at all times or only when the parking lights are on.

If they only operate when parking lights are on, then go to your nearest Hyundai spare parts division and get two new combination Brake/park light lamps. $4-6.00 Australian.

Most cases smart people tend to fit a single globe in the combination socket that won't function as a combination globe. If your problem isn't this then you have a strange wiring fault caused by someone, somewhere, somehow ????

Hey thanks for the response. The brake lights come on when the headlights are on, yet they will still come on when brakes are applied without headlights on. It's very odd I think I will have to go to Hyundai dealer because it seems like some very weird wiring or something.

johnc is right, check the bulbs in the rear light cluster before you do anything else, its very likely someone has fitted the wrong bulbs

The headlights operate on a negative signal converted to positive via a relay in the engine compartment, the brake light is a constant 12 volt battery supply that is activated by a small switch mounted on the brake pedal this signal is constantly 12 volt. There is no way according to my knowledge how your lower brake lights can trigger with the headlights and not your high mount stop light if there is a leak.
