Hi all. I have just joined the forum and plan to introduce myself after posting my question. I am trying to remove the 5 speed gearbox from my coupe and I am struggling to pull it off the engine. I have undone everything all cables, bell housing bolts, mounts etc and have succeded in getting a small gap around the engine/gearbox joint but when I try to apply a small lever to pry it from the block it feels like there is something in the bell housing snagging it. I just wondered if I need to undo the clutch arm or something. I have been in the trade all my life and I am now seriously thinking of selling instead of fixing. Im gettin to old for all this grief!
Any help would be welcome.
All the best
Steve

This question needs to be posted in the Hyundai Coupe Forum......the S-Coupe was the predecessor of your car & went out of production in 1995!.

(The `Coupe S` designation of your car indicates it`s the base model).

Your car has Hyundai`s 2.0 Beta engine, whereas S-Coupe`s were all 1.5`s......Mitsubishi in the Mk. I & Hyundai Alpha in the Mk.II.

Nick.

Thanks Montego for your reply. I feel such a fool. I went to the car this morning and it was so obvious that I could not believe that I hadn't seen it before. Neadless to say as soon as I had undone the clutch arm, It flew out!! Well not out exactly as there is not enough room to get it right out, but enough space to remove the clutch. So can you imagine my frustration and anger when I found out that the main dealer supplied the wrong centre plate!!!
Now I have to wait until tomorrow lunchtime.. It will eat into my already busy weekend but it has to be done.
Just as a matter of interest, Do you know a easy way of getting the arm back onto the bearing?
Thanks again
Steve
