When you leave the headlight switch on and remove the key and shut the door, the headlights will go out, as they should. However if you do not remove the key or shut the door completely the parking lights remain on and if not caught will run the battery down. Today I shut the door completely but left the key in the ignition in the off position, and still the parking lights remained on! Never had such a peculiar circumstance happen before with any other vehicle I've owned. :innocent:

Hyundai wires up their headlights weird!

I had that happen to me... It was daytime, I always run with my lights on. (which is one thing I like about this bizarre ignition-switched headlight setup we have.) I had taken the key out and opened the door on the driver's side, lights went out. Then I decided I wanted to sit back down in the passenger's seat for a sec. Of course, I put the key back in the ignition and the lights came on, took the keys back out later and the lights remained on. 4 hours later I go out to lunch and it was dark, my parking lights were on. Opened the driver's door and viola, they went out! Oops!

As long as you remember to open the driver's door at some point after you take the key out you'll be fine. My manual says there's supposed to be a lights on reminder chime on it but it sure doesn't have one.

I noticed .. the chime only works with the drivers door, not the passanger ..

Weird. Mine only chimes if the key is in the igniton and driver's door is open; and when the seat belt is unbuckled. Has no chime for the lights whatsoever.
