Hi...I just discovered and registered with this forum, and glad I did. I wanted to say how nice it is to have other Sonata owners to share info with. I'm enjoying the range of topics and photos, too. I bought my '08 Sonata GLS (w/I4 automatic) back in October, and I don't think I've ever enjoyed a car this much. I owned a '01 Elantra for 6 yrs. until it got totaled in an accident (luckily no injuries), but it led me to buying a Sonata. I've had no problems, other than the car not wanting to start in park, a few times, in the first week I owned. The Hyundai service dept. couldn't duplicate the problem, and it went away. Probably a small glitch for a new car. I wish I would've got the 5-speed automatic, but the 4-speed is fine for my driving. Also, I tried my own oil change on it for it's second oil change (7,000 mi.), and I was amazed at how easy it is to get to the drain plug and filter. I needed to get a different filter wrench to fit the larger size, but it was pretty easy. I won't be much of a frequent poster, but I'll visit often and ask questions, should they arise.

If the gas price woes continue as they are now, I think you may be right.

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. About that filter wrench, is it a socket/cap type filter wrench? If so, were can I find one. The filter is really an odd ball size and I can't find one anywhere (including the dealer).

The last time I did mine I picked up a two pack of strap wrenches (one big and one small) and they worked great.

Tons of other useful ... uses as well. You should be able to get a set or one at pretty much any automotive store.

From one I4 owner to another. Use only a HYUNDAI filter. You can find these at your local dealer for about $7.00 (US) I only use factory filters because of this...

http://jerrystout.us/sonata/tsb/aftermarke...l%20filters.pdf

After you have the filter in hand go to your local parts store and buy a filter "socket" that fits the factory filter. After market filters are smaller, experience here, so the factory size "socket" won't fit. Make sure you have a 6" extension to get up into the filter area. Most of the "filter sockets" that fit are 1/2" drive so have the appropriate adaptors and/or drive for you socket.

Enjoy your oil change AND ownership experience.

BTW don't be a stranger...us 4 cyl fans need all the support we can get. V6 guys can be tough.

$1.34.9

Funny, but there seem to be a LOT of Toyota 4Runners, Ford 4X4s and Dodge trucks for sale! I think the jump from $1.15 to $1.30+ broke some backs.
