2001 1.3 Accent

Problem: Sometimes my car doesn`t start, starter keeps running but seems like there is no ignition or fuel.

It usually happens when the engine is cold. When the problem occurs there is no check engine light when i turn the ignition ON and thus no fuel pump sound. I did run diagnostics for the car but there are NO error codes in memory.

I really don`t want to go to service with this issue because I believe they can`t find the solution before I have bought myself half of a new car.

Sounds like your fuel pump may be going out.

Hey Mike!

Since the starter turns, you have eliminated bad battery, bad cables, bad ground connection and bad starter as the cause.

With any no start condition, you have to diagnose whether the cause is no-spark or no-fuel.

Get a can of spray starting ether, or a good substitute is spray carbureator cleaner.

Remove the inlet pipe from the front of the throttle body. This requires loosening a screw clamp.

Have your loyal assistant crank the car. while cranking, spray the ether(or car cleaner) in the mouth of the throttle body. If the car sputters, fires, and even runs, problem is no fuel. If the car does NOT sputter, fire or run, the problem is no spark.

For no fuel, you trace back to the fuel pump. For no spark, it could be a failed crank position sensor, bad plugs, bad ignition wires, etc. But first, determine if you have a no spark or a no fuel condition.

Hello

I have many Accent because of my job ( I have a car rental company ) and this happened to me in two cars.
The problem with me was the immobilizer, I don’t know if the cars in US have the same system because I leave in Europe.
When this happens the immobilizer light don’t blink and you have to turn off the ignition and open it again until the light turns on. Then the car starts.

Thanks to all who have answered so far and i have checked some things but yesterday when car did hes tricks like usual, i noticed that there is also no immobilizer light and check engine even came up but still there was no immo so no starting. After reading some posts about immobilizer I think this can be the problem.

I haven`t YET checked my ignition switch and ECU connections but i will do it tomorrow. I don`t think actually that the problem lies in harness so which relays or other stuff i will have to check which has anything to do with immobilizer? Can i take it out somehow and solve the problem?

I have a 2000 Accent...had a bad maf sensor..changed that...problem was car would not start. Maf sensor has been bad for long time,,so i just changed it anyway. problem i am having is on cold starts i have to push it to start it. After a push start its good all day, until i get into car to go home from work! Once again it needs a push....someone told me starter drawing too much power that the coils not heating up......bs.....i thought starter...but it cranks all day. My thought was crank shaft pos sensor. Is that the sensor on the top right by the valve cover?

cj
please reply to ccush047555@aol.com....cannot access this web sight from work,.,,,thanks

ok,,sprayed carb cleaner...started right up. after carrb cleaner ran out...tried to start it....fired up again....sounds like pump or filter. will do both and get back to you.

Can you describe me your situation more clearly, what lights were on on the dashboard? I got NO immobilizer and check engine. Anyways, i sent you the pictures of crank sensor.

Todays discoveries: I went to my car and put the ignition ON, car showed me NO immobilizer or check engine (like usual) but i just kept the ignition on and waited.....and all lights came up after 25 seconds. I tried this method again for 3 times and it was all the same: i put ignition on and wait....wait 20-25 seconds and then suddenly immo and check lights came up and i could start the engine. I also looked over all connections which i could (with removed cover under the steering wheel) and all looked fine.

Now i do not know what to do, maybe the problem lies in some relay or alarm system? (although i took out the alarm fuse and still got the same problem, i believe it was the right one)

Hi Mike

I read your post and I think that your problem is also as it looks the immobilizer. The problem when I asked a Hyundai dealer is with the antennas from mobiles phones which mesh up the signal from the key to the immobilizer sensor.
My opinion is that this is an easy excuse to avoid the problem.
The only solution that I found is to reprogram the immobilizer code to a Hyundai dealer but again after a while the problem comes up again.
So far the only solve to the problem is to open and close the ignition switch until the immobilizer light decide to light and then crank the engine.

The second think that I am trying to do with no result until know is to by pass the immobilizer.

UPDATES:

I ran out of ides a few weeks ago so I used my last "lifeline" - to go to the official Hyundai dealership.
They thought that immobilizer antenna was the problem and changed that - of course it was not. After that i went to dealership for 2 more times and they couldn`t find the solution
They said that they have never seen that kind of a problem and thought maybe the ECU is bad but new ECU is far from cheap so my only hope is to borrow it from someone (tough task of course)

Anyways, if there is ANY IDEAS what can be wrong with my car, please write it down!
