Dear tmac,

Per sylvania.com, the H7 fits and must not cause any damage per their replacement bulb listing.

An 80 watt H7 will cause wire melting and or over heating. The stock bulb is only 55 watts, If you want really bright go with an HID kit.

Not only will an 80 watt bulb damage your wiring, but it will also damage the headlight housing itself because of the heat generated. Headlight housings for 01 Sonatas run in the neighborhood of $300. Each. You could easily get an HID kit for half the price of repairing the damage you would do to the wiring and headlight assemblies.

If you want brightness, any HID kit would be nasty. Had mine that we sell at my shop for 4 years and counting with size H7. I sell them for $250, but you might find cheaper prices possibly on ebay if you're brave.
