Hi All - ive just sent back my twelve month old Range Rover Sport and bought a Terracan Limited and all I can say is that the motoring press massively understated this car.

The Rangie went back to LR as it towed like a pig and bounced so much we all felt like Churchill the dog ! LR spent 12 months trying to find the problem (the LR engineer described it as 'like driving a capri when the shocks have gone !!!). In the end they confirmed it was a problem but didnt know how to fix it so for 45+k you still dont get customer service.

Whilst the Terra lacks the handling and the refinements (or if your a snob the status) of the Rangie but it tows better, has more toys than all but the top of the range LR and best of all it costs a third of the price with a 5 year warranty !

What made me pick the Terracan - when the Rangie couldnt cope a few weeks back and we and a 2.5t caravan were towed off a field by a Terra on road tyres !

I reckon that £600 to cover a set of Koni's and a tuning chip and I will have the near perfect tow car.

Thanks to everyone for a great and very informative forum. :)

On that score I would agree-the Terracan is a good towing wagon

Hi dlj_uk

Great to see someone actually changing over because of a cra--y LR I bought Hyundai in 2004 because it offered value for money and I am also glad I mafe the change.

Whilst I can't see why you want Koni's this soon -I suppose its for what you tow but my Tucson tows my caravan really well on the standard set-up. I'd say to you don't rush for a tuning chip too soon as it depends on what you buy as to whether Hyundai invalidate your warranty or dont know.!

I am currently checking out a new product that will assist you and when I have the full details I will be releasing a report and hopefully a discounted price for forum members Here and also on http://www.hyundaiownersclub.co.uk/index.php and a tucson owners site.

This product is for ALL diesel Vehicles.

Cheers
Itza

We have had our Terracan Limited Edition over a year now and hubby is really pleased with the performance. Alright we had the problem with the shudder but that is now fixed.

A couple of weeks ago we went to the Balloon Fiesta in Bristol with our 17ft Swift Signature caravan. The rally was on a slightly slopping school playing field and whilst Thursday & Friday were fine it rained all day Saturday and then on & off Sunday.

By the time we left there were only about a dozen caravans left of the 160 which had attended. The entrance was between school buildings and the tennis courts up a grass banking with a sharp left hand bend so as to clear the corner of the building. The marshals were having to help tow off normal cars & caravans because the top of the field and grass banking had turned into solid mud. Even some 4x4s had needed extra help with a tow including one in front of us as we left. Did our Terracan let us down? No way hubby gauged it just right, smoothly round the bend only stopping at the gates to take the Terracan out of 4 low.

I think we did get some funny looks travelling along the M5 then M4 because of the amount of orange (clay) mud on the front of the caravan. :whistling:

Our only complaint is Hyundai U.K. don't seem to be importing any at the moment. :o :( Hubby retires next year and was thinking about a new one then which would have to last us until we gave up caravaning. Looks like we will be keeping this one.

Ive just returned from a day driving the disco3 off road at one of their experience centres, and boy am i glad i saved about £15k and bought a terracan! Dont get me wrong it is a nice car but what a waste of money. The plastics in the cab were not substantially better than my terracan and the noises coming from the traction control/HDC/ABS were horrendous!(just like scraping the bottom along rocks!) As for the HDC, give me a low first gear low range any day. The air suspension was impressive, but how long till it breaks down? Other users of the site asked about my terracan and were somewhat impressed (especially the price!) and even our instructor conceded that they are very capable! :460:
