Hello all
I am a newbie in DIY on cars. I am trying to replace CV joints on my Elantra 2000. I have done it before on a Nissan Sentra.
The car is from the north and quite rusted.
On the driver side, I had some problem in breaking the hub nut loose. But eventually with rust eater and some heat to the nut, using a 32mm breaker and 3/4 breaker bar I was able to break it loose and open it. The problem I am having is removing the driveshaft.
Normally, I loosen the hub nut and try to push back the shaft with a sharp blow and then remove it after opening the ball joint etc. My problem is that I am not able to move it even a millimeter. I have used rust eater etc and beat the **** out of it. But it seems that the shaft is stuck due to rust in the ball bearing casing.
Am I doing this right? Do I need to remove some other things before I can push the shaft out. I read a few post on the forum and checked out the hmaservice website but could not find much details. There has been mention of removing the snap ring but thats after I push it out and that ring is also on the other side, I mean away from wheel. Am I correct?
I was able to easily push the passenger side shaft inside and its ready to be replaced.
Have been working on this for week with no success :( . Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
