My father-in-law's 2001 Elantra Automatic has had an intermittent starting problem for several months. I think it has something to do with the neutral safety lockout since the solution is usually to move the shift selector a few times from park to neutral, roll the car forward and back a little or turn the wheel back and forth. Last January it wouldn't start at all so we had it towed to the shop where they determined it was the starter motor. Problem seemed to be solved until a few weeks ago. The usual maneuvers were working until yesterday when I had towed back to the mechanic. Of course, when taken off the tow truck, it started right up and they have not been able to replicate the problem to detrmine the cause. Has anyone else had the same problem?
