I had an SRI on the old PT and loved it. Car sounded good and had a little more front end power. With my Accent, I'm not so sure I want the growl. Does the K&N make enough of a difference or is the short ram intake a must. I can make my own SRI or buy the K&N for about the same amount of money, so that's not an issue. Is the SRI too loud?

Advice would be greatly appreciated?

If you get the K&n and just replace the filter with another square one and keep all the tubing and the silencer box, then it will have as much sound as now.

If you get a Sri that is bypassing the silencing tubes and is alot louder when wide open throttle but all you hear is a little growl under low throttle.

you could change the filter but it wouldnt make a difference unless you open up the air flow to begin with. you only have a hole about the size as the total surface area of a large dinner spoon. it pretty weak. take oiut the fender noise dampening box and you get more noticable power (although im not sure it is noticable) and not a lot of noise

I really want to make a custom SRI, but I can't find any performance filters, other then K&N. I don't like the whole oil in your intake idea, plus buying recharge kits might end up being annoying. So I'm more interested in the nanofibre filters I've read about. Cheaper, and IMO better.

Do any stores in Toronto sell them? Is there an Amsoil distributer here?

AMSOIL did someoen say AMSOIL? Yah I'm a certified T-1 Dealer.

AMSOIL DIRECT DEALER

I currently use the AMSOIL EaAU3051 but you can use which every you wish, just check the sizing. But yes they are far superior to K&N type filters.

I'm sorry Komptek, I ment are there any dealers in Toronto. I want to see and feel one of these nanofibre filters, see how easy they'd be to wash.. etc.

I used a K&N SRI in my 02 PT cruiser. Never had a problem with oil in the intake. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine. During the six years of owning the PT, I cleaned and recharged the filter twice and the place that changes my oil recharged it once.

You can order whatever you want online, so remember, your not limited by your local area. You should try being here in San Angelo Texas. Only 98000 people. I order most everything I've put in any of our cars via the internet.

Good luck in your hunt.

You don't wash the filters you just blow them out with a shop vac. They feel much like a K&N except they are blue in color and are not oily.

The aem sri comes with a filter they call dryflow. Very nice filter made of synthetic fibers. You wash it just like you would wash a k&n, but you dont oil it. Probably similar to the filters Komptek sells.

Only simularities with the AEM and AMSOIL filter is that they don't get oiled. the AEM still requires you to clean it in a soap adn water mixture, then drying time. the AMSOIL is a no water just air, so your back up and running in less time then it take to do an oil change. The AEM also doesn't have the wire mesh on the outside. As for filtering thought they are both great filters.
