well if you are looking for some nice added bass I would recommend either one or two 12" subs. I've had many different systems and found that the 12" give better bass than the 10" For instance I had 3 10" MTX 6000 subs and when the one sub blew I replaced that system with two 12" MTX 6000 subs and the 12" subs were MUCH louder. I would check out circuit city, best buy (or any other stereo place) and see if they have any open box deals. I've bought two sets of subs this way and saved a bundle. IMO if you aren't looking for a competition stereo, brand isn't a huge deal.
One thing to note is that the stock headunit does not have RCA outputs (or at least mine doesn't). I tried a line out adapter behind the headunit, but the subs just didn't sound right. I haven't played with it since, but something to be aware of.

I would suggest finding a local store. Do you have any friends who have gotten stereos installed? Perhaps ask them for suggestions on where to go, or you can always use google to check on stores. http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=U...2C+wa+car+audioOnce you find a store, talk to the sales staff. If they seem like decent folk and make some reasonable suggestions, then it will be much easier to shop. IMO, buying stereo gear online is ok if you already know what you want, but trying to sort through different model numbers and tech information can become very confusing if you are at all unsure. Plus most of the stuff on ebay will not be from an authorized seller, so it will not come with a warrantee. You may save some money, but having to repair one faulty item out of pocket could nullify any savings.

QUOTE(smokeybear @ Jun 6 2008, 01:26 AM) Thank you! head unit is that the deck? that area looks huge. sorry I was sitting on the beach all weekend  yes the head unit is the deck, radio, cd player, whatever you want to call it. It is huge. . . haha but the technical term is a double din headunit. Since you don't want to "play with wires" I would say you have one of two options. 1. If you know someone to install it and help you decide what you want/need, then ordering off of ebay or another online store would be fine. 2. If you don't know anyone, then I would say take the car to a local shop or one of the chain stores. I've had circuit city install one stereo for me and they did a pretty decent job (I think the install fee was like $50). I just didn't have the time to intall it myself, and I talked to the people in the proshop there and they knew what they were talking about/doing so I trusted them. As far as size (now I am not a stereo expert) but from personal experience a 10" sub will give you a tighter sounding bass. It will be more crisp and clean in general, where a 12" (or 15") will give you a more revurburating sound. It will pound a little louder, but won't necessarily sound as crisp. All I know is when I had my VW Golf with the 3 10" MTX 6000 subs it was extremely loud. When I swapped them out for 2 12" MTX 6000 subs and had it at full blast you had trouble swallowing. Luckilly I only got pulled over once with that system and was let off with a warning from the cop in NJ who asked me to keep it to a low roar :w00t: If you have any questions just ask.

QUOTE(ruthlessromeo @ Jun 13 2008, 05:26 AM) check out craigslist.com.. usually find good deals on car audio.. Craigslist/ebay/kijiji/bargain finder.... These are all great if the person has the knowledge and experience to weed the trash from the treasure and wants to do their own install. If you are going to pay for an install, you are better off to pay a little more, get new product with a warrantee. If anything goes wrong, you are covered for replacement. If you buy a deck off ebay and it arrives with an internal malfunction, you pay $60 or whatever to get it installed, well, now once you find out it is broken you have to pay again to get it uninstalled and send it back. Buy a new deck and have it installed at the store, and if it's defective they'll just grab another off the shelf and get you on the road with working tunes. Buying used is easier for the DIY'er, just makes it simpler when you have the time and practical experience to avoid lil pitfalls like the one above.

QUOTE(alex2006sonata @ Jun 13 2008, 03:07 PM) ^^^ exactly, if you don't have the know-how I'd buy it from a local store/shop. I wanted something cheap (to add a little bass) in my Elantra GT after the coils fried on my Kicker sub. Well I got two 12" subs in a bandpass box for 50% off from best buy because it was an open box item (I got it for $75) Now no yelling the subs were Dual and weren't exaclty great quality, but for what I wanted they worked great (plus they had blue neons  ). I also bought another stereo from circuity city that was an open box item and saved a ton of money. If you find open box items you can probably get them even cheaper than ebay would have been. Plus you would still get the manufactures warranty. hey, i have had my Kenwood dual 10" sub / 3-way box that I bought open box 9 years ago, and it still kicks arse... (then again, i didnt have it in any car for about 4 years as it was sitting in our apt. in the closet)... nothing wrong with open box, as long as its still in good shape... (although, I wont comment on the "Dual" brand... i dont know much about it other than its inexpensive :w00t: )
