I'm not looking into purchasing a new 09 Sonata at all, but i have found it interesting that the lots only have GLS and Limited models.

I wanted to see the differences between the SE and these models, but they are very hard if not impossible to find. None of my local dealerships have any, nor have they had any at all.

Well anyway I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to actually see an SE, so I located one at a dealership in Illinois with lots of pics. I've provided a link below so you all can see the mythical (whoops I mean) actual 2009 Sonata SE.

I really like that it doesn't have woodgrain interior and I also like that it has the 5 spoke wheels.

As far as thie SE is concerned, it's got every options except dual climate control and heated seats compared to Limited model.

It's hard to find a dealer that has all the pictures of its vehicles on the web.

That's a good looking car. Love the interior. Did they delete the rear spoiler on the SE for '09? And what's with the wood grain shifter with the metal grain trim?

Very interesting. Seems its got a 6-CD changer but only manual A/C. Are those seat half leather - or do they have the little holes in the middle strips? I actually prefer the newer wheels than these older style 4 spoke ones...

Agree that wood shifter looks out of place.

BTW..do do all US Sonata have the overhead grab hook on the drivers side? (see it in the shot of the sunroof). My current 09' & previous 06' Sonata is missing the grab handle over the drivers seat.

your seats have the holes in the seating surface ? cool .. ours don't have that to my knowledge .. and yeah my car has the overhead grab hook on the driver's side, odd that yours doesn't - do you have passenger grab handles ?

the Canadian version also doesn't even have the 6 CD changer as available ?? weird ..

Yes. In my 09' the center strips on the seats, front & back have all little holes perforated in, its also on the leather faced sections on the doors. It was just plain leather in my 06'.

No CD changer for me either, but I did get 'single zone' climate control.

And no grab handle over the drivers seat but they are there on the other 3x doors. This was the same in my 06'.

That is very nice! I think the old 17 inchers look really good and so does the dark cherry with black interior. Wood shifter looks out of place. I don't like wood trim but I don't like their choice of it in the new Sonata's.

babstude, that refers to the current odometer reading.

keanebg1, my US-spec 06 model has four "Oh S#!t" handles, one for each door. Since neither your 06 nor your 09 had/has the driver's handle, perhaps there's some sort of government regulation against it?

@Everyone:
1. I'm not digging the old style 5-spokes with the new exterior. The new car isn't nearly as aggressive as those wheels demand. They look mismatched.

2. I also noticed the shifter flub - it really should be the brushed metal looking stuff.

3. Another difference between SE and Limited - SE doesn't have the chrome/metal strips on the side molding and bumper corner moldings. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your taste. (I've also heard that the Nav system is NOT available in the SE, but I haven't confirmed that yet.)

4. The SE really needs the spoiler from previous years. Since they've taken away most of the aggression of the exterior already, the car really looks naked without it.

@Hyundai:
Since the SE is a "sport" model, WHY don't you offer a V6 MANUAL option here? Even those crap Sonata's you built in 1999/2000 had a V6 manual option!

Maybe that's why Hyundai is offering Genesis Coupe.
I wonder how many people actually want a family sedan that has V6 with manual. V6 manual on a coupe woud be better.

Uhhh...ME! LOL!

The coupe is fine if you don't have to transport more than two people. For the rest of us that must have four doors, the option would be nice. I drive the Sonata to work on a daily basis, so I'd like to be able to have the fun of a manual. Since I also carry family members around with me on occasion, it's nice that I've got a four door car and don't have to fight with getting a child in and out of a car seat in the back of a coupe.

ALSO, to add to the previous discussion:
The SE does not have leather seats. They are vinyl/leather on the bolsters and cloth in the center. There are no other seating options for the SE. The only non-standard option available per the "Build Your Own" section of hyundaiusa.com is the Premium Package, which consists of:
- Power tilt-and-slide glass sunroof
- AM/FM/XM/6-CD changer/MP3 audio system with iPod®/USB and auxiliary inputs, subwoofer and amplifier
- Electrochromic auto-dimming inside rearview mirror with HomeLink® integrated tranceiver and compass

So, for the SE:
- No leather seats :(
- No Nav option :(
- No Bluetooth (unless the dealer can add it) :(
- No dual climate control :(
- No manual transmission :(
- No metal strips on the moldings :( / :)
- Sporty suspension :)

Looks like I'll end up with the Limited (which is what I planned anyway).

The Bluetooth option on the Limited is just a stand alone unit that takes the place of the sunglass holder. They have nothing that integrates with the nav. That is about the only thing I like better on the Accord and Camry.

You'll be very pleased with the Limited...and as far as handling, I was very impressed in my first extended drive today... 160 miles roundtrip mix country roads and highway... as fun as my Lexus was...
