More than anything, you need to watch how you drive. You really can't get a huge increase in effiecency by popping in a different brand of spark plug wires. If you have a manual transmission, coast as much as possible, drive as slow as you can, and shut off the engine at long stop lights. This website has loads of great tips: http://hypermiling.com/phpBB3/I have an '03 Accent GL that I bought 6 months ago. My first few tanks of gas was 24-26mpg, then I found that website. I've gotten as high as 39, but I average 36. The whole idea behind hypermiling is to not burn gas if you don't need it. The real extremists will shut off the engine while coasting down hills. I just coast down the hills.

I have a 2000 Accent L, w/ a manual tranny and 181,000 miles, about town I get 38 mpg and Hghwy 44 mpg, keep your tires at the factory specs, you will find them printed on a sticker on the inside of the glove box door. Change your oil every 3000 to 4000 miles, keep a clean air filter usually once a year, and fresh plugs once a year, But most important is your driving habits, don`t keep your foot on the gas right up to the light, Use Common Sense judgement. I also get between 40,000 and 60,000 miles out of brake pads!

Just wondering, looks like you are changing the belt when you should be, I wonder how many people driving this car do what you do. -tr

Thanks for sharing. For those who live in the northeast, there is a unique opportunity to test your fuel mileage in a fun way. There will be an "Economy Run" in upstate NY [like Mobil used to do in the 50's and 60's]. Details are here.

There's a reason the there's a vacuum line from engine to the brake master. Safety First!

I have achieved over 44 MPG highway before in my 2000 Accent. I only run 94, or 93 Octane fuel, its good for a few MPG, I run smaller and lighter than stock 185/60R13 Sumitomo HTR200 tires, on 10 lb American Racing alloy rims, K&N cone filter, exhaust header, 2 1/4 inch exhaust, 3/8 inch fuel lines, have run without a catalytic converter before since the header, but the high flow high performance one I run keeps me legal and doesnt hurt MPG's either, I removed the rear seat, interior panels, rear trunk liner, jack, spare tire, so its basically a bare shell, I run 34 psi in the tires, NGK plugs, Bosch wires, heavy gauge battery cables, battery relocated in the back. The best thing to help mileage is that from the second I pulled out of the gas station after filling up (in Virginia) to the second I got home (in Ohio) I kept the car at 65-75 mph and did not stop. Achieving over 440 miles on less than 10 gallons of fuel (1 tank).

Geez... how many miles do you have to drive to recoup all that cost?? Also I picture you swerving around traffic jams and bouncing through fields at 70 mph (I know that's not how it happened it's just sorta funny).
