my son says his '01 with about 100K miles is making a noise around the left front wheel that sounds like ball cards in spokes? He has maybe 100000 miles on it and never does maintainance...but we have to get him thru college before he gets another car.
Any ideas or suggestions? He also says that once in awhile it starts very off balnaced and that he turns it off and starts it again with no problem...
Thanks.
Bob

cv joint you only hear when you turn. It will be louder, my old celica had that issue and it got so loud right before i fixed it.

The bearing is definitely a possibility.

Check your tires, mine the lugs were kind of loose, which is odd. my breaks were very low, when I started to hear the noise, so waited 1 week to get paid and did my breaks. I don't know if wearing the breaks down so bad could damage the bearings, but the noise continues.

As soon as I get the money i'm going to get the bearings checked.

I think you should too! Thats dangerous...

Thank you for bringing up wheel bearings!!!

I'm calling a mechanic today...I hope that a local O'Rieley's keeps things like CV joints/wheel bearings in stock. I will let you know what happens...

Check your wheel covers. My 01 accent did the same thing. I removed the wheel cover and the noise is gone.
