All of the washer fluids have at least some type of alcohol in them. It works as as solvent/surfectant to remove the dirt and oils.

Ever tried washing the dishes with cold water? How's the result?

Rubber for tires is made of oils, cars/trucks leak oil/tranny fluid every where and this is what is on your windshield. Try driving with the sun on your windshield after trying to clean with just the water. :w00t:

You can get a small bottle of windshield washer concentrate and/or use some different alcohols in combo with your "free" purified water.

Einszett and P21S make some that an ounce or two per gallon works well with plain water.

einszett washer concentrate

P21S concentrate

Just a side note: more is NOT BETTER than what they recommend!!! Too much soap makes it streak also.

I found it online for $1.39 with FREE SHIPPING!

We need however to order 37 Gallons for the FREE SHIPPING :whistling:

I was thinking we do a Group Buy, I will place the order and pay. Then I

could Ship them to you. There is no Tax, but shipping will be about $5.00.

Let me know what everyone thinks. :liebe011:

i was almost thinking about using tap water plus a VERY LIGHT mix of like dawn soap or maybe car wash soap....

Dawn brand soap is GREAT to strip of the wax from your car. I've used Dawn for years to clean off the car wax twice a year as part of my prep for Nelly's semi-annual makeover.

I'm almost done with the spring cleanup - did 18hrs worth over the weekend. Still need to do door jams, engine, interior and tires.

I figure another hour on the engine, hour for the doors and trunk lid, 2 hrs for the interior and 20 minutes on the tires - then I can call it done!

I think the washer fluid contains methanol (poisonous, so don't drink it). Most are starting to go with ethanol now. Regardless, if you roll your own it does need to be distilled water. Why not just buy the blue stuff and in the summer dilute it to maybe 10:1 vs. the full concentration for the winter ?

As a parting shot - since Sonata's don't have any special washer fluid this thread is headed to the off-topic lounge.

I find that just using water doesn't clean very well, and it might rust your washer pump.

In the summer I usually use a 40/60 mixture of washer fluid to water.

All the WW pumps I see are all plastics--except for the motor pump shaft, and it has the impeller on it, so the only metal exposed to water is the tip of the end of the shaft.
I still like the blue water.
