Hello !

I'm about to change the original hyundai head unit radio/6 cd changer/tape/mp3.
I'll replace it by an ALPINE IVA-W205R.

My question is : do i have to keep the external amplifier or do i need to bypass it?
If yes then i have to rewire all speakers to the Alpine head unit?

I guess that the Alpine head unit must have more output power that the hyundai head unit.

Can someone help me please?

Thank you

If you're using the factory speakers, I'd assume you'd want to keep using the factory amp and just use an adapter for the head unit harness.

I have a similar issue. I have a Clarion head unit which when plugged into the harness sounds terrible, this is due to the amplified sound from the head unit being re-amplified by the factory amplifier. I dont think you can simply wire the pre-out connections into the factory amplifier either because you will not be able to control the volume.

I think it may be a case of simply by-passing the factory amplifier and disabling the power supply.

Any further help would be gratefully accepted

Hi, I don't have a santa fe yet (picking one up in a month or two), but I've been browsing this forum for a while. I see no one is replying, so I thought I'd give it a shot. While I dont have first hand experience with the santa fe, I know for a fact that the pre-out connections are volume controlled. In fact these are the same outs that are fed into your Clarion power amp, which feeds into the harness to power the speakers. I have a kenwood head unit with pre outs (front rear and sub). the front and subs are both plugged into external amps, and the head unit controls the volume for everything.

You were correct about the terrible sound by plugging in the harness. It sounds like the wires go straight to the input on the hyundai amp which probably requires the low level inputs. If you can get some cheap rca cables you should be able to splice them into the harness without too much trouble.

I'm not sure you'd want to bypass the internal amp. I guess the amp is rated at 605 watts, so if you underpower the speakers and try to crank it with just the head unit, you may run the risk of blowing the speakers

I've changed the stock radio by a 7200 Kenwood and I keeped the stock amplifier.
You only have to use the non amplified outputs of the new radio and connect them to the amplifier.
Volume is controlled with the volume control of the radio.
