...the VW Golf TDI! Drive had this to say about the i30 CRDi in summary: The engine is world-class, the build quality good, the space efficiency of the design impressive and the pricing - as always - unbeatable. But the dynamics are flawed. A set of grippier tyres is needed, as is the Protectz safety pack. You will feel better about having your nearest and dearest in this car if you spend the extra dollars.Original article.

I was actually contemplating replacing the tyres with something that doesnt lose its grip but thought i would wait until i get my $10 worth from the Kumhos, they are sloppy but do the job maybe some michelins or continentals which someone told me we reduce fuel consumption even more.
Interested to hear everyone elses thoughts.

That's a great article. Agree with the Kumho's grip - could be better. One of their photos confused me though... I don't recall ever seeing such a heating configuration, or lack of steering wheel controls tho... (IMG: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y297/ShamblesX/HyundaiI_L_700.jpg) Is this normal down there in OzLand?

The model in the photo above is the poverty pack version (SX), that's the base entry model into Oz, at AUS$21,490 (diesel; the petrol is $18,990). I actually think the centre instruments look more elegant than the chromy surround higher model one.
Regarding the more expensive model (SLX diesel, at $25,990), demand is so badly outstripping supply (across the whole range), that my leasing manager has not been able to get a deal on the SLX "on-roads" better than $30,990 - admittedly, I added quite a few goodies to my wish list like roof racks, full sized alloy wheels, ipod connector, Protecz pack, full tank of fuel, mud flap, factory cruise (presuming they have it), but none of the dealers discounted much, which is no surprise, because they have no reason to do so.
So ... unfortunately, I'm just about 90% sure the i30's off my list of purchase (I need to do it all by mid July), because other diesel makes are already having their end of financial year sales, and there's no way I'm going to pay full price for the i30 and cop a massive depreciation 3 years down the track. A shame, because while the i30 isn't the car I would classify as a driver's car, it was just ... "complete" in just about everything ...... anyway, life is about enjoying what you have, so the Maz3 will have to do ....

Hi ya all I test drove a crdi sx manual and i didn't like the inside the dealer then was syd city hyundai ... I saw the slx petrol and seemed to fit my needs, however i didnt order it from these guys as they were closing down.
I picked up my slx for $26500 driveaway which included ipod cable, matts , tinted windows, reverse sensors, wind deflectors, and paint protection all up was very happy with the price.
The dealer gave me a good deal as its the third hyundai i have bought from them. The only things i missed out was cruise and esp.
But the vehicle finish is magic and the diesel manual is even better although not too sure about the airbags all over the place. Having never owned a diesel i get really excited not having to change gears going up hills all the time where with my Sante Fe v6 I had to push it hard.
Hyundai have definately come a very long way and hopefully we will see a lot more of their excellent efforts.
