I just wanted everyone input. With the smokin' deals on the '08 Sonatas right now I've just been considering a trade to buy a new '08.

I currently have a '06 Sonata LX V6 with leather, sun roof and 6 disc changer and 35k miles on it. I bought it used and owe $10.5k on it.

Would it make sense to trade it for a '08 Sonata Limited 4 cly with leather, sun roof, the whole 9 yards assuming I can get it out the door for about $17.5 - 18k?

I've not checked out, touched, or driven an '08 yet so any input would be welcomed.

Thanks,
Paul

You are upside down on the 2006...not much, but there are cars identical to yours on the lot for $12-13K...so I would not expect more than $9000-9500 for your car.

I JUST bought an 08 Limited I4 and we were at $19000 OTD (not including taxes). That was the BEST deal I could do and that was a "we left, call me tonight if you want to do the deal". $17.5K is not realistic.

So with taxes...you are going to own $22000 on a car that you basically already have.

I would not call it stupid...but it does not make a ton of fiscal sense.

I was about to do the same thing with the Hyundai Santa Fe, just keep your sonata, when you pay off your sonata get new one with a 4 cylinder.

yeah what il06 said.

If you really want a new car get an 09. The 08 is the same as your 06. Might as well go farther upside down in something new and improved.

We all love that poisonous Hyundai New Car smell! :460:

There are always "Smoking Deals" out there. :57:

Sure they are offering $3000 off all 2008 Models. In 2006 you had to jump

through hoops to get that Manufacturer $3000. Of course the 08

I4 comes with limited additional discounts. There is much more

room to discount the top Trim Sonata! :57: Would I get an 08?

If my 06 wasn't working right. So far it is working better than when

purchased, and worth a whopping 40% of MSRP if you are lucky :trophy:

Yeah not enough difference between an 06 and 08 to make it worth the trouble, even if you weren't upside down on your loan. If you're willing to take the financial hit I would go with an 09. Personally I'd keep driving your 06 a few more years and see what happens when the next model comes out. It might be a quantum leap over even the 2009 the way Hyundai has been improving lately.

My 2006LX in excellant condition with low miles(17,000) it's closer to a 50% hit and would be worse with more miles and overall condition .
I know MiamiX has low miles on his sonata also.
Sorry to say that Hyundai does not hold it's resale value, we all know that, but love our cars anyway!
I have considered the 2009 but also can't justify the $ hit I would take just for a few extra perks that the 2006 doesn't have.My 2006 runs great and has never had any problems since I got it.

So true coming up on my 15K service. And my Sonata was recently restored

with a full exterior Detail. Nothing new that I would really need in the 09. Plus

I was audited by the IRS and they want $5000. This comes a day after I won $300.

I am stuck with the 06 and it is fine with me! :57:

Mustangs....they will.....I'll be in the Sonata. They've reserved the track for some runs. Can't wait to see WHAT MY F24S can do.

Hope I'm paired up with a 90's Pony. Kick its but.

Deciding to keep the 06 is a good move. We dont know how the 09 will play out.
It is alleged that the 09 has more fuel efficiency and more horsepower and I am sure we are going to see reports on that over the next year or so. It sounds like you dont put too much mileage on your cars if you are at 35K. If gasoline goes further out of control maybe you will want a car that gets 30mpg or better.
I would have kept my 03 Taurus but it was coming up on exhaust work and battery and belt replacement as well as a brake job/rework etc. If it wasn't for the 3K rebate I dont think I would have jumped.

I checked some Auto Trader magazines in Canada, that had a few '06 Sonatas in it. They are selling for $16-18 grand. What's a '09 worth? $30??? OUCH!
