Hi, Has anyone got or does anyone know of an XG for breaking? I need the rear window aerial/antenna amplifier. It is located behind the trim on the C pillar RHS. I expect to pay for a good one of course. Thanks.

Hi montego, Thanks for getting back to me. I haven't priced a new one yet . . . I'm almost scared to. :) There's an XG for breaking on eBay at present. I rang the guy up but it seems the car has been rolled and the C pillar where the unit is has been damaged. FYI, the eBay item is #170221067393 :liebe011:

l have removed and refitted the ariel amp. on a XG, it's only a small box and l would not think it would be that expensive. are you sure that the amp. is at fault because the same problem happened to me and it turned out to be a faulty radio. if you have the sony mini disc radio that was fitted as standard to uk models there is a common fault where they stop working on fm band

It's definitely knackered. FM reception was very poor especially in rural areas. I checked all the connections at the amp and made sure they were all tight. I decided to remove the box from the body and when doing this the FM reception suddenly became excellent. Ah Ha! bad ground I thought. I filed the mounting brackets and the screwheads and put all together. It worked fine for a day then back to poor reception again. I then removed the amp again and opened it carefully and checked the printed circuit board for dry joints or cracks but all was ok. It appears to me that it might be a fauly component or chip perhaps. Anyway, I got it to work a couple of times by flexing it but now it is permanently poor reception. I will price a new one and let you know.

There is an XG for wrecking out here in Australia, planning a trip over to wrecker in the next couple days. I'll let you know what they want for it, perhaps I could mail it out to you (Airmail costs $24.50 to London, sent something last week, should take 5-10 business days).

Hi Greywolf, I would appreciate that. I have a son in Western Australia who will be coming home in July so that's another option if you can get me one. Thanks very much.

Aha, the RHS !!!! I was looking on the LHS. Just to clarify though, where is the antenna assembly on the UK Xg's ? Left or right ? Also, is it a part of the antenna motor that retracts/extends the antenna, or a seperate unit ? A picture would be fantastic, as I would know exactly what I'm looking for. They didn't have my parts (no engine ) but I'm heading over that way again on Monday to see another wrecking yard.

the amp is on the right hand side, behind the plastic trim on the right hand side of the rear screen. the uk model of the XG has the ariel built in the rear screen. once the plastic trim has been pulled off the amp. is easy to remove. thanks 'greywolf' for putting yourself out to help another member

Absolutely! Thank you Greywolf.

Montego, If the Australian car has a body mounted aerial, do you think the amp. will be different? I mean, it will not have the same connections for the heater element on the rear window. I have posted a picture here Greywolf. If it does not have these connections, then it's probably no good to me. Thanks both of you.

Mate next time I'm down there I'll have another look see, about to check HMASERVICE to see what that says.

Yeah OZ models have a powered retractable antenna, I'll try and track down a picture of it.

Hmaservice is it's usual obscure self, but did find in the troubleshooting section of body electrical, a chart which specifies extending the aerial.

What year model is your car again ?

2nd EDIT ! : Just checked HMAservice again, on a hunch. Realised I was looking up info on my year model car. Seems like after 99/00, they moved the antenna from a powered extendable to a window aerial unit.

I'll keep an eye out for a later year model Grandeur for you mate.

My XG30 is 2002. The part number is written on the amplifier. It is '96280-39000'. Thanks for all your trouble.
