:00000732: Hello, I have just put a 2006 Azera together. Engine and trans axles, Im a good back yard mechanic/ Banker who dabbles in repair from time to time. I read the info on taking the radio out it was excellent. It took me about 15 minutes to swap. Im working on a 2006 Azera. I have a doner car that Ive taken parts off of to fix the better car. The better car is a 5,000 mile stripped model and the doner car is a loaded limited. I swapped the interiors I wanted leather everything went fine changed the door pannels because of the wood handels look better. Also it had Infinity speakers I swapped sounds great and looks super. Now the Limited had a Inifity Stereo slight appearence differences. 6 cd and cassett deck. Now the size is the same but the options are slightly greater. ***** NOW HERE IS MY QUESTION: I wanted to use the better radio. I put the Inifity Radio in and the Radio powered up fine but didnt work. Is there a ampfiler or something that needs to be used in working the radio? The functions work fine but no sound! No static!! No noithing. Do you think the radio might be blowen or the Inifity system needs something extra to make it power up? Like a amp or something. And if it needs a amp where is it located? The plugs on the back of the radio are the same it looks exactly the same measurements can any one help! Also Im selling the doner car on ebay. Many Perfect parts. Also, in the deal I ended up with engine parts in boxes, everything you can think of from Pistons,Valves.Intakes.Air mass, tb,coil packs, all on boxes new. If you need anything just call or write. The limited w/Infinity has an outboard amp. The amp is mounted on the right-hand side of the trunk behind the liner (& behind the rear wheel well) You'll need to pull that out and use it. I don't know if the wiring is already in place for it on the stripped model (I know sometimes maufacturers wire for upgraded accessories on cars even though a particular trim may not have the option...or it's an upgrade). If it's there it should be plug & play, otherwise you might have to yank the wiring for that too.

My question is: if you're building from the ground up, why not go aftermarket? Nav, DVD, killer POWERFUL sound system, etc?

He'll probably make more return on a high-end OEM spec car than on a "customized" car.

From what we've heard so far these guys are wired one standard way... but the stereo may be a single exception. But for the Infinity surround system the speakers are all powered from the head unit. If that's the case then it's unlikely that Hunydai ran wires for all the speakers to the back of the trunk, then put a big wiring harness in to connect them with the wires back into the cabin. That'd be over a hundred feet of extra speaker wire (and quite a bit of performance degradation) for an unutilized feature. I'm betting there's just some kind of digital pre-out from the Infinity surround sound head unit back to the amp, maybe a proprietary configuration, in the cars w/ that stereo. The base model probably has a wiring harness behind the head unit with wires that run directly to the dash speakers / doors / parcel shelf.

Still, I'd be interested to know.

I have used the inifity speakers with the stock radio and the speakers work with the cheaper stereo great! There is no wire or loom going to the radio. I suspect from your words the wire harness is there and its ready to plug & play. I'll keep you posted. Thanks, for al of the knowledge hear in.

allmet33 would probably know more about this since he has tapped into the harness at the amplifier for his semi-custom sysystem (aftermarket HU to factory amp running aftermarket cabin speakers). You may wat to shoot him a message or coax him out of the woodwork as he frequents this board.

Andyman brings up an interesting point about being wired the same (which I eluded to in my previous post). It seems like a lot of the wiring in these cars are the same (folding mirrors for example) but the stereo may not be. If the cars were wired for both stereos, I hypothesize the following to be the simplest solution to do this:

There would most likely be a wire harness that, in addition to power/ground/etc, runs wiring from the radio to the amp location in the trunk. From there there would be another harness that runs out to the speaker locations. these harnesses I would guess plug together for the base stereo and just pass the stereo amplified sound through to the speakers. For the Infinity system, these harnesses would be unplugged and the HU would send low level signals down these wires to the amp and then the amp send out the speaker level sound to the car though the second harness. However, I have a hard time believing that this is the case as it's a bit overkill with the wiring as Andyman stated. Either way, check that would be amp location in the trunk and see if there are any harnesses in that area that could be part of the audio system.

You stated that there is no harness or loom going to the radio (I assume you mean other than the one that cariies power, ground, speaker connections, etc) This would lead me to believe that the two cars are wired differently from the factory (or my above theory is actually true). Since the stocker HU powers speakers directly, it would make more sense to run speaker connections to the HU itself. The Infinity unit uses the outboard amp in the trunk to power the speakers and sends a line level signal to it via the harness (which runs wiring to the trunk amp not the speakers). Since your base model is most likely wired differently than the limited you are probably sending this line level signal to your speakers resulting in no sound.

To use your infinity head unit you will have to pull the amp from the limited and if you can get it out, the wiring. It may be easier to just cut tails off the harnesses and run the wiring yourself. Again, ask allmet33 as I think I saw somewhere that he had the wiring schematics for what wire (or pin) was what. Bottom line is you need an amp for that HU.

Then again I've had a lot of coffee this morning and I could be wrong about all of this. Allmet??? Are you out there with words of audio wisdom? You seem to have the firmest grasp on the azzy sound system.
