I was rear ended (not a major accident by any means) in my not even 3 week old 2008 Santa Fe. I've got some money to repair the damage to the muffler (the tip wash squished rearward into the main muffler area). Anyone know how difficult of a job it is to replace the damaged muffler assembly with a new one? Is is a bolt/unbolt type of job or will some welding or major disassembly be required? Debating whether I should pay a shop to do the work or buy the OEM muffler and do it myself. I do have the insurance payment already, so really I'm just seeing if I can keep some of that in my pocket.

On a side note is there a good place to get a 2008 service manual or parts diagram for the santa fe?

Thanks,

-Brent

HMAservice.com has online service manuals (requires free registration), and you can get a CD service manual on eBay. The CD is faster and easier if you can find it.

You can get the oem assembly and bolt it on if you feel like rolling around on the ground and wresteling with the exhaust. You should call your local dealer and price the assembly as you may be suprised.

The other guys insurance company paid you for your repair costs so you should really use that money to fix your SF properly. I hate the thought of paying for car insurance so that some other guy can have money in his pocket. Seems to me that maybe your attitude is part of the reason our insurance costs keep going up.

Huh? Your response is sort of, well, Richardish. He got rear ended and the insurance Co gave him a settlement for the issue, that's what they do. Are you saying that if he chooses to go on the cheap to repair the damage or give the entire settlement to Hyundai that would make a difference in insurance costs? It seems like you have little understanding of insurance. You pay for your insurance, let the insurance company manage its business as it sees fit.

Back on topic - you can get the work done cheaper than factory and have the same or better quality. However finding a good muffler shop seems like a difficult task in my area. I would replace from the cat converter back and make sure it is all stainless. That way you will never have to worry about it again.
