While I do not have a i30 to check this, I would think that as the part you refer to is a cast alloy part. The marks on the part appear to be left over from a procees to make it smooth and remove the casiting marks.

I would think this is normal and nothing to worry about.

I've just checked mine.

Although there are scratches they are not as bad as python357.

I would agreed with bdennis and they are probably due too poor finishing.

I've a date stamped on mine 2007 07 06 which I take is the day it was passed fit for purpose.

Does anyone know how I can find the date of build for the car?

I've got the sticky type just below door catch but no plate at bottom on passenger side.

Got another sticky type on drivers side showing tyre pressures.

Any other places to look?

Hi,

Looks like flashing. It is where the two halve of the mould join together and it was not cleaned off properly, don't worry about it. It will not affect the casting in any way.

eye30 (and shambles),

The silver plate that is rivitted on is an Australian VIN Plate (Vehicle Identification Number). Don't expect vehicles in other countries will have that. Should have mentioned that. The other black sticker is the Build Plate.

Thanks Bob. Details must be elsewhere I'm sure I will find them.

As for original post.. guessing a bit of 'ruff' has to be expected, when casts are released/prised from their castings

python357,

Checked the engine mounting casting under the bonnet and ours is smooth as a baby's bottom. I'd say there is nothing to worry about though as as others have said, it is probably only a rough casting.

also must be noted without that plate makes it very hard to register a car, like if you imported an i30 you would be at the mercy of Hyundai if they would supply one of those plates, with out that you can not drive on our roads. well i should say you could but not long term and not with full australian registration. just as a visitor, so shambles and eye come over drive your i30's down bondi beach this christmas in the heat :)
