Hello Everyone:
I'm coming up on almost 36,000 miles and I just recieved a letter from my dealership saying that there is a service for my car at that mileage. Does anyone know what it consist of? Im thinking if its something I can do myself, then I would do it myself. TIA.

Please don't get sucked in. Most of that is the dealership's attempt at wieght reduction of your wallet. Especially the fuel injection cleaning. With today's cleaner gasoline, that is rarely (if ever) needed. 50,000 to 60,000 miles is a more realistic avaerage for the more expensive maintanence work. Keep up on the regular stuff of oil changes, tire pressure/rotation, air filter etc.

I agree. That menu was made by my old Dealer in Miami. The services you

find listed can be funny. Like the Timing Belt replacement for the Sonata. :P

This menu came from a Toyota Service Manager who became a Hyundai Service

Manager, and then was fired for not knowing Hyundai. Nice guy though!

My dealer has a long list of posted "services" to be performed at "X" miles for many hundreds of dollars each.

Most of these are "inspections" - otherwise known in the trade as a "sunshine special". They let your car sit in the sun awhile and then - as the man said - lighten your wallet.

As was said, do the basics - yourself if you can - and avoid the shop "routine services"

Hi I found a great tool over at Edmunds

http://www.edmunds.com/maintenance/MaintenanceServlet

This is what my LX should see in the next Month for the 15K.

I'll bring this printout to the dealer. They will probably just laugh!

Miami,
Tell them to perform these services as noted and you'll pay the "quoted" price.

Negotiation my friend......negotiation. Tell them you won't eat any doughnuts in the waiting room. Honor system. :57:

BTW I like that menu...again where did you find it?

When you go into the stealer, TELL THEM EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO DO! I had a coupon for a $39.00 oil change, and instead of the oil change, they did a 12000 km service. I SH_T myself when the bill was triple digits, or close to it. ($129???) They reluctantly reduced it, and then complained that they can't make any money at $39. Not MY problem... Be warned - there's PIRATES about!!!

If you are using Mobil1 synthetic, you can buy 5 quarts of mobil 1 or mobil1 extended performance with mobil1 oil filter for $26.98 at advance auto parts. This deal ends this month.

I'm not sure how good mobil1 oil filters are but they are $10 each at regular price.

Or as you may know, you can just get a 5-quart jug at walmart for $22.88.

Don't you sign an Authorization, or an Estimate of Charges before they can

touch your Car? First I found out there are no 'Pay at the Pump' Pumps in BC,

now this. Do you guys get free Dentists too?

I am using mobile one synthetic. That a pretty good deal, except I get my filters at the dealership due to I have a v6.

Just had the 35,000 mile service done. The delear had a list that came to almost $500. I had them change out the tranny fluid, flush and refill cooling system, roatate tires. (I do my own oil chnages nothing but mobile 1). Came to $162 with tax. They tried to sell me an intake cleaning which was very expensive and not needed at 35,000 miles. They told me I should do it to keep my warranty in effect. I told them that dirty injectors does not void a warranty and they stopped trying to sell me a service that was not needed. All in all the $162 was not bad for what was done.

My may be out of line, but I have to call on this one :w00t:
I've had 17 vehicles since my driving career began in 1970, including 3 classic cars and a 20 yr old 1988 pickup with never a tranny fluid change, or failure.
 1 exception-had the 1972 Buick Riviera first time fluid change last fall.
Mechanic said after 35 years the tranny fluid and inside parts looked in quite good shape.
I don't understand in this day of 100,000 mile tuneups, and 5 year antifreeze changes, why anyone would consider a tranny fluid change at just 36,000 miles.

My guess would be paranoia.

Keeping the warranty intact only requires ATF replacement at 105,000 miles. As we know, most maintenance intervals are written in favor of the company's interest, not the owners'. As such, I'm sure even 105,000 miles is a conservative estimate.

If you do lots of stop and go driving it can't hurt to change out the fluids. My sonata gl tranny fluid wasn't red anymore but brown indicating after 40,000 miles that it was time for a change so I had them do it. Also there is no tranny filter that I know of so any pieces of clutch plates will be removed when the tranny fluid is changed out. The coolant flush is done every 3 years since Hyundai does not use dex cool (GM) which is good for 5 years. I'd rather error on being cautious than having a breakdown. I skipped the intake cleaning since thats not even in the owner's manual and if you use top tier gas you should not have a carbon build up after 40,000 miles.

The car now runs like it was new---If thats all I have to do every 40,000 miles I'm happy.

PS I changed out the oil and air filter myself.

with sythetic oil you can stretch it up to 6K miles, like I do. I hope you used the Hyundai auto fluid only.
