I'm considering buying a 2008 Azera with nav. Everything I read says it has "spoken audio directions". That could mean that it simply says "turn left in 500 feet". Does it have text to speech so that it also says street names?

No it does not say street names. It does however say interstate highways...ex; Turn right in 300 feet at I eigthy-seven. Otherwise it just says "in 300 feet turn left", with a nice split screen to show the type of turn. An exit off a highway shows just that while a turn in the city shows in a different way as a hard turn versus the exit ramp presentation.

Just wondering if anyone knows a way to get the DVD player in the 08 Azera to play a DVD while driving? They would be very usefull with the kids on long drives.

Thanks,

Bill

Most aftermarket DVD players/in-dash screens have a wire that runs to the parking brake that allows the screen to become active only if the brake is engaged. I'm sure the azzy has something similar - either to the parking brake or the transmission lever position sensor. you may want to check the hmaservice.com website. They may have a wiring diagram for the radio wires that might show you what wire you need to use to bypass this lockout feature. There are ways to bypass this feature on the aftermaket decks so I'm sure, with some ingenuity, you can do the same on the azzy unit.
Just don't get caught driving with it playing. Most states have a law about having a video screen in a car for movies within view of the driver.

Since the car has to move in either direction before the DVD stops suggests it's connected to the speed sensor. In the schematics at hmaservice.com there are speed sensor leads to the MTS and the AV Amp Module. I would think it would be one or both of these leads that turns off the DVD. Finding the right connectors in the harness could be difficult. Without going thru all the ECM codes, disabling sensor leads may cause a fault... good luck.
