I am thinking about buying a 2001 XG300L from a private party here in Ohio, USA. I spoke to him for about 30 minutes tonight. He told me that he has had it for 3 years. 3 weeks after he bought it, he had to replace the motor and the transmission. Both have 60,000 miles on them. Since then, he says there were no problems until last November when he had the alternator replaced. (I didnt think twice about it until I read some of the posts from 2007 <YIKES!>) Anyways, the car drives very nice, the interior is in very good condition and, overall, it would be the nicest car I have ever purchased from a private party. I didnt take it on the freeway during the test drive, so I dont know if it has the "frightening jerk" problem or not. Just the thought of it scares me! I drive to and from Indiana with my 17 month old daughter twice a month and a jerk like that is liable to cause an accident. Can anyone tell me how common this problem is and how much it would cost to fix it if it happened? I would appreciate any input anyone can give on this car, it's pro's and cons and it's safety (safety is most important). Are there any recalls on anything? If so, will a dealership fix them for free? Also, can anyone give me an average gas mileage?
Thanks in advance!
