Hi Jess,

Bet you're getting excited... Have you decided what little mods you'll do first? Wheels and Tyres is my guess :P

I'm going wheel and tyre package shopping with my eldest Daughter in Launceston 2moro for her 2006 Getz..(she has just turned 21 and I've encouraged her to do up her little Getz a bit rather than upgrade to something fancier now she's paid it off) She likes V8 Commodore utes!!!! :whistling:

Cheers,

Dazz

Hey Echo that was quick... how did you manage that!

Are you trading one of your vehicles on the i30 (what do you're Honda mates think about you getting a Hyundai)

Sorry about all the questions.... :innocent:

Cheers,

DAzz

hey Dazz, your daughter has good taste! V8 Ute!! ( i like all V8 ute's m8 like the chev LS2 motors too. but tell your daughter they like to run on 98 octain the best so will cost her lots more to run. no matter what you do to a Getz m8 you can't make it look good, but they are a nice little car to drive just there look is not that nice.
hey i have given my i30 a full workout on all the best driver roads this state has and those Kumho tyres work m8, i had a friend hanging on while i took him around some tight corners hard he could not hear the kumho's squeel i have 36psi pressure in them. they also roll smooth seem like an ok tyre, the best Hankook tyres i've ever tried were the Ventus Z rated
cheers John

Hi John,

The Daughter dumped her long term boyfriend last year but not before she picked up his love for fast commodores. She's got a new friend but he "only" drives a tricked up Pulsar hatch. Ash calls it a "girls" car. :P

Oh well see how I go with her tomorrow. With two strong willed Daughters (different mums) 11 and 21 y/o i've learned to bite my tongue (a lot)! :whistling:

My i30 came with the tyres pumped up to about 40PSI but I'm running them at 32 all round, like a comfortable ride (and don't go racing) might try 34PSI just to see if it helps economy. Been watching your postings, glad you're enjoying the car as much as you expected to. Most unbiased people say good things about Kuhmos as an everyday tyre. The Ventus ones are used on some pretty flash machinery I believe?

Rgds,
Dazz

Hi Dazz, Did you get the wleels for you daughters Getz? What size? What colour is the Getz? Just trying to get a mental picture.
I am planning to get a set of 18" inch alloys for the i30. I am fighting an internal battle with myself trying to justify the purhase. It would make more sence to put cruise control on first, but that wont make it look any better though.
I had a set of 19" alloys on my previous car, 05 Hyundai Sonata. It was black and looked bling. Lovedit untill i had to replace the tyers at a cost of $350 a peice.
Even so, we have had our i30 lowered about 30mm and it just needs the bigger rims to compete the picture

I still dont know why people want to change the rims to bigger one? because according to my experiences, there will be slight a problem with swapping rims

eg.

1. some of states DPI state "that rims with more than 3" bigger from stock rims its illegal" and some insurance company wont pay any damages if u having accident in those aftermarket rims
2. In Honda, u cant just change to the bigger rims, because it will fked up the suspension setting, and might damage the hubs and ball joints (unless using Super Light weight rims ,eg. rims from enkei ect2 or Coilovers Suspension), btw these light weight rims is cost fortune, and if u change the coilovers it will void warranty automatically
3. if u buy rims aftermarketly ,the fuel consumption wont be the same (could be good/bad)
4. People seems forget RIMS is not really2 important, the TYRE is... TYRE will save your life.

that is just my personal experience

Hi Eyma,

I am going up to Launceston 2moro (100kms away - the winding way) to spend the day with my daughter. We have a few things planned including wheel and tyre shopping. Going to check out Bob Janes and Jax quick fit. Her Getz is Black with Pink personalised plates (she is also getting her windows tinted) Bob Janes has some quite nice black spoked alloys on special.

Would like her to get no bigger than 16" as anything bigger will cost her too much in replacement tyres and make ride a bit firm *(already a bit jiggly in Getz due to shortish wheelbase)

As far as your i30 is concerned I reckon the 16" on the SLX are a nice compromise. Think you have SLX like me don't you? I like the SR mags a lot if I could justify the expense would upgrade to them (nothing bigger) be too worried about ride quality and insurance etc...

If it were me I'd spend the money on a spoiler and skirts rather than alloy or cruise. Reckon cruise is only worth $500-$600 tops!

Cheers,

Dazz

Hi Dazz,
How did the the alloy wheel shoping go with your daughter? Beats clothes shopping with the wife hay! :amen:
I sold the rims off my slx i30 today to a couple who bought a sx model. Arranged it through my dealer, Dont worry, they made their cut as well. Against your advice (sorry) i have bought a set of 18" alloys. Got them at Bob Jane. They are a bob jane rim caller linear. Having them fitted on Friday.
Your right that they could effect the ride a bit but it should be minimal and i dont mind a slighly harder ride. I have already had the car lowered a bit so it should further improve the grip. As far as insurance is concerned, most companies allow up to 2 sizes bigger than normal so these will be fine. I already have a spoiler fitted. Have thought about a body kit but seeing as it already sits lower, am concerned it might caues it to scape going over speed humps and up driveways.
Anyway, should look preety hot, I will try to post some pics if i can work out how
Dazz, Have you or are you putting any mods on you Moon light blue beauty?

Hi Eyma,

I was encouraging Daughter to put mags on her Getz rather than update it (now she's paid it off)

Had fun looking at mags with her but although we found some 15" Avanti Medusa wheels with Pirelli Tyres which suited her car for around $1000 she was tempted by some 17" wheels and Tyres which were closer to $1700.

Her boyfiend who is thankfully pretty sensible talked her out of spending that sort of money which she would never recoup on that car. Still had a good day organising window tinting etc.. for her and meeting the new Boyfriend (nice guy)

I have only tinted my windows, added tow bar, Dashmat and GPS. Otherwise pretty happy with car as it is. Got wifes new car at same time (Tiida) and put mags and tint on that too.

Had a nice Elantra before i30 for a short period with bodykit and to be careful with ground clearance even though it wasn't lowered!

Cant wait to see pix of your car with 18" wheels etc... hope you'll post them on both sites!

Regards,

Dazz
