I was wondering if anyone has a chance to evaluate the 2009 Navigation yet?
I am extremely undecided on whether to just get a limited with everything including the navigation or go for the lower priced GLS and get a sick aftermarket system.
I really love the look of the factory system. I took it for a brief test drive and it was cool and the sound seemed fairly impressive. However I am not sure how I would feel long term. Also I have a $1K eXtant amp, eXtant subs and Boston Accoustic speakers from my old aftermarket system which I am assuming would sound even better than the stock Infiniti.
I am extremely curious to find out how compatible the stock system is with an ipod. It would be really nice to be able to control everything from the steering wheel and even better with voice commands.
I have been looking at all the aftermarket Nav systems and some seem pretty cool but in the end they don't have the voice command and are even more expensive than the factory system.
Itis almost impossible to find any decent info online about the system but I did read somewhere that the factory system will be able to have software updates?
Any opinions?

I just got mine & I was also debating this, but I went ahead & spend the extra $1250 to get the NAV. I liked the speech feature & also the XM radio on the NAV screen it much better!!!! I am pleased with it although I still don't know how to use the speech feature & I wish it had the bluetooth built in w/ the NAV, but I guess you can't get everythign!!

I didn't get to play around to long on the est drive the the speech seemed cool as far as using the navigation. I think you will pick that up pretty easily. Sorry for the multiple questions but I might be buying one this weekend and really was curious on some things

1. So are you impressed by the sound?
2. Have you hooked an ipod up to it by any chance? Really curious to see how it works with the ipod menus.
3. Have you noticed any volume issues? I read some other messages and a some people thought there was a differnce in sound quality where the volume almost had a restriction on it.
4. Does it say anywhere in your owners manual about upgrades for the Nav software?

Well you can hook up an iPod but you will need a special cable. This is the only way to get full integration. There is a TSB that mentions this special cable.

Also XMNavtraffic is rumored for the navigation system. Hopefully by next month. Also plays DVD's while in park.

Thanks I was reading about that cable. I don't mind getting that just curious if full integration meant all the play lists etc. I doubt they would have cover art as well?

That is very cool to hear about the XM. Do you think this will be a software update hopefully and not a hardware piece? It would suck to find out later I could have had the traffic feature if I waited.

The iPod cable is quite cheap. Invoice is 24 USD but expect to pay 24 to 50 USD. Maybe more but no less than 50 USD. 08620-2L000 is the part number. As for map updates well it uses flash memory but there will probably be a DVD updates every now and then.

No word on the XM NavTraffic but it could just be a retrofittable mod.

So I just bought the 4 cylinder Limted this weekend. It is going to take a fews day for the dealer to transfer it from another dealership but I'll hopefully get some info and pics up once I get a chance to play around with it. I also put an order in for my the cable so I hope to get that soon as well.

I got mine when I picked up my car this past weekend from the First Hyundai Dealership in North Attleboro, MA. The cost was $29.99 and I even got a few dollars off of that but I am not sure it is was because I was buying a car from them? The parts manager name was Brian Allkerd and he was very cool.

The car and the system are extremely sweet! I hope to get som pics up at some point. You can do a ton by the voice commands. The cable gives you control of all the Artists, Playlists, etc on the ipod but the bummer part is the voice commands only activate the ipod. You still have to use the touch screen to scroll to find you selection. Not too big a deal but the voice commands let you say the XM channel you want or the FM station etc.

Still playing around with the system but there are a ton of things you can do with hte commands. The sound quality is very good. NOt as good as my aftermarket system i had previously so I will probably add that amp and speakers but one of the better facoty systems I have heard.

You can get it at www.utahparts.com/.

Less than 25 USD. Just go to the hyundai section. use CTRL (CMD) and F and search 08620-2L000. Thats the part number you need.

Does anyone know how to get updates for the Nav system on the 2009 Hyundai Sonata? I just got my car and I noticed that there was a "Map Upgrade" option that expects a disc when pressed. Is there a way to register to be notified when updates to the GPS system are available? Who provides the data or updates?

Thanks for any info!

Well the maps are probably by Navteq. There was an article about that. The data is actually stored on a flash chip. The updates are a DVD that then updates the flash chips. Hyundai will likely provide them sometime soon. Map updates may not occur until next year or the 2010 model year. We will see about that.
