When driving, my turbo seems to "kick in" about 1500rpm no matter what gear I'm in. And before you say it not dress gear but mechanical gear!!

When in 1st or 2nd this has the effect of pushing me back in my seat. In 4th or 5th the pick up is instant and overtaking is a breeze.

Is turbo "kick in" factory set or can it be tweeked?

All you are feeling is Torque m8, the turbo just get's some added velosity through the ports, all diesels pull low rev's they don't like high rev's, that is why they last longer. but 255nm of Torque does not throw me back in the seat as i've got a V8 as well it pull's harder than the CRDi i30 @ 1,500 rev has over 500nm Torque you have been used to something else b4 the i30?
cheers eye

Hey eye30 I wouldn't take that sort of talk.. I think John is having a shot at you!

It's not your fault you could only afford a Trabant before the i30, is it :P

Yeah sort of... they were made in East Germany before the wall came down.. "not quite" up to the standard of the cars made in west Germany at the same time :)

There is quite a bit about them on the net - sort of a reverse cult following...
