My service book says the replacement drive belt is for the 2.7lt engine, the rest of the motors are inspect only? Also my book says timing belt is to be replaced at 90K, doesn't specify the diesel being any different?? Can anyone pls confirm one way or the other? Cheers guys :)

QUOTE(python357 @ May 15 2008, 04:26 AM) how about maintenance for petrol car? i wonder does i30 using belt or chain? worry for my wife's ignorance on such issue.
Ask Hyundai, but don't worry my friend, belts are very good these days! they make them much more durable than in old days, just i would expect around 100,000k or less the belt ( if it has one ) would need changing just to be safe, not such a hard job, just make sure a good operator does the job and you won't have any problems.

The petrol i30s are belt driven, the diesel uses a timing chain and does not need replacing, just use fresh oil and go, remember, diesels do not rev as hard as petrol motors.
I very much doubt longterm whether the chain will stretch, maybe if you beat the crap out of the motor with 6,000rpm gear changes, frankly, I dont see the need to ever rev past 4000rpm since thats where max power is, these are not drag cars chasing down quick 1/4 mile times.
Ozsnowman - Those are the guidelines as I read them straight from the manual, they are guidelines, emphasis on the word "guide".
Rubber perishes due to heat and oxidation, depending on many factors, the belt may need to be replaced sooner, maybe later.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic.... ie it absorbs water....water introduced in brake lines can boil under hot conditions or applications which may cause brake pedal failure. Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years or 40,000km, given how hot summers are in Aus, you would be mad not to.
