This just in:  Accent sales in June 2008 have shown a 70% increase over June 2007. :)  They moved 6,914  as opposed to 4,067 last year

Wow! Was always wondering why Accents didn't sell better. Last month they increased to ~4000 from ~ 3000...this month to ~almost 7000!. That's great.

However, the auto industries' shrinking truck & SUV sales are NOT being made up for in small car sales, either in numbers & most very certainly NOT in monies paid out to purchase vehicles. Its not that I care over much for the auto industry. But the major hits the auto industry is taking is affecting working families terribly. The v. worst is to come & it will come rapidly. We are in the silence before the storm.

July sucked for Hyundai... the Accent and Elantra were the only two vehicles that sold to the good compared to last year. Unless you count the 619 Genesis models sold, since they sold 0 this time last year. The bump in sales for the Accent/Elantra weren't enough to compensate for the crap sales for everything else. sales release

Accent did pretty good: 6,740 vs 3,435 last year. So far from 01/08-07/08 the Accent has sold 34,924 vs. 22,361 for the same period last year. Quite a bump in sales! Let's see what happens now that the fuel prices are leveling off, hmm.... I suspect people will once again start buying bloat once fuel becomes relatively "cheap" compared to what it was a month or two.

Yes, Accents, at 6740 are OK, but down a bit from last month's 6900+ Accents sold.

Generally, year-to-year sales are the key to sales success or failure. However, with the quick runup in gas prices, sales success of small cars must be compared to sales downturn for companies' big vehicles. For most vehicle manufacturers (except Honda & Nissan...maybe, Toyota, Hyundai & Kia), total sales slack-off are crippling manufacturers.

I guess we can feel good that we knew small cars & high MPG were the way to go, specially with all the razzing a lot of us probably got for our small vehicles. But somehow, any vindication I feel for my small cars is pretty hollow right now. The condition of world economies is miserable & those greatest punished, aren't the gas guzzler people, but the poor. It is the actions of richer & rich people who hurt the poor most.
