w00t, looks like more people are getting the message. The Accent didn't do so bad in April. SourceQUOTE Sales of Hyundai’s economy car, the Accent, increased by 1,197 or 41% to 4,115 in April and sales of Hyundai’s midsize sedan, the Sonata, increased by 567 or 5.4 percent to 11,001 in April. But sales of Hyundai’s Tucson SUV fell 51.7% or 1,842 units in April to 1,721. Our car's twin, the Rio, also saw a small increase from 3,279 in April 2007 to 4,052 in April 2008. This pattern echoes throughout the industry it seems, small car sales are up for pretty much everybody. It's about time, die you fuel sucking pigs, die! :gunsmilie: lmao! Seriously though, it's good to see people downsizing, small cars are getting pretty nice these days. This post has been edited by hoosieraccent: May 13 2008, 07:18 AM

Nah....I would of never figured.
I manufacture parts for many different automakers. We are a small company and are a level 5 supplier. I remember thinking to myself about 5 years ago when the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator programs were taking off and then seeing these little soccer moms out and about in these Behemoths that people were morons. Well......I think the feces has hit the proverbial fan as far as America's economy goes. If it has not sunk in yet, "WAKE UP PEOPLE" "WE ARE IN DEEP DO DO". And, while I like my Accent that gets 25 miles to the gallon around town, I would much rather see the 37 that I used to get back in 1984 with my Nissan Sentra. WTF is with this less mileage than 24 years ago. The manufacturers are giving us a screw job, they can deliver cars that do much better and we don't need hybrid technology to do it.

QUOTE(onetwenty @ May 13 2008, 11:16 AM) go team! .. good for everyone in the end though.. .. I still get stopped maybe once a week or two by someone commenting on how much they like my car, people think it's the new civic apperantly.. .. my response is generally: no, im not one of those honda guys. there's not really a downside to out cars are those **** plastic doors and luggage room, but judging by that cargo post, not many people have had an issue. I get the same response, people always comment on my car, my buds at work call it a shoe, BUT they are paying up the butt for gas so i get the last laugh!!! GO TEAM in deed!!!

The weight of today's cars hurt the gas mileage. With all the airbags, computers and emissions equipment, it's not just a car and engine anymore.
It's great to see that small cars are selling well, I've always liked smaller cars and would not purchase large suv's or trucks.

QUOTE(crayb @ May 14 2008, 04:47 AM) The weight of today's cars hurt the gas mileage. With all the airbags, computers and emissions equipment, it's not just a car and engine anymore. Pretty much! Cars have more gizmos and gadgets, plus they keep getting bigger and bigger. Weight is definitely an enemy. And the fact that so many get a stiffy over 0-60 times and horsepower isn't helping either. The auto rags criticize a car for having anything less than 200 horsepower anymore. Lots of run of the mill modern day sedans are pulling 0-60 times that many years ago, only sports cars could do. And even the lowest output engine you can find in a modern econobox is still far more powerful than anything they had in the past. Cars like the Metro XFi could flirt with 60 MPG but made do with only 49 horsepower. We have more than twice that in our Accents. The manufacturers keep making fuel efficiency take a back seat to performance. If a detuned, lower performance, higher efficiency model was available for the Accent, I wouldn't mind having one. In terms of safety though, I'd much rather be in my Accent than an old school style of econobox. The Accent may not be as safe as a larger vehicle, but it's still a safer place to be in than what small cars used to be. This post has been edited by hoosieraccent: May 14 2008, 08:25 AM

The Accent may not be as safe as a larger vehicle, but it's still a safer place to be in than what small cars used to be. While engines have gotten more powerful and fuel efficient, the cars have not. This is manly because of the weight of added options (navigation systems, sunroofs, power everything, etc) and added safety equipment (ABS, air bags, traction control, stability control, etc). If cars today were lighter, fuel economy would be much better. And as far as the Accent being safe; yes, it is a MUCH safer vehicle than the econo cars of the late 70's and early 80's.
