Hi all,

The 1992 S-coupe wont start, floods and chugs really bad , thats if it starts at all

So now having worked out how to fault find using a circuit tester and i get a 3-1-4-5 code

So I then find that it means a Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor

Next step.............. Can any one tell me where the Bl**dy thing is

These cars have more sensors than I have taste buds in my mouth

All help, hints, tips or suggestions gratefully received

Hi!
The engine coolant temperature sensors are located in the domed alloy thermostat housing....in it`s base.
This is located at the engine end of the top radiator hose.

There are 2 sensors; one feeds the ECU & the other the temperature gauge.....sorry I forget which is which, but disconnecting on a trial-&-error basis will show which is just for the gauge (if you can run the engine long enough to warm it up!).

It is the other, ECU-supplying sensor, which requires replacement.

Good luck,
Nick. :)

The sensor for your temp gauge is the sensor where goes only one wire.
And the sensor for your ecu (which is the important one) is the one where goes multiple wires.

Hope our answers helped :57:

Just in case you didn't find it. I have a good write-up I did when mine went bad.

It's on a '93 Scoupe, but same basic principle...

Link: Coolant Temperature Sensor

Thanks to all who assisted, get help

Once I changed the Temperature Sensor (and the temp sender as well) all is good.

As the sender was causing the ECU to flood the engine badly I had to remove the plugs and dry out the cylinders with compressed air to get rid of all the fuel pumped in there.

Once I did that, and cleaned and reset the plug gap, it started, ran rough for about a minute then settled down and now runs like a charm

Thanks
