I've installed a Weapon R SRI, and now I have a fairly loud 'humming' sound coming from the car at idle.
Anyone else have this problem?

Could it be from hard mounting the ECU to the kit supplied bracket?
The ECU doesn't have a hard drive spinning in it, or does it?
Should it be rubber isolation mounted?

Other than this noise, the SRI is a great add on. Sounds meaner/throatier pulling under throttle, and I can now top a hill on the way home from work in 4th gear, instead of downshifting to third.
Hope the fuel mileage improves...

Its probably just the sound of the intake your not used to. They make a slight humm at idle. Your ecm should be fine as long as you have it mounted securely.

No, there's no hissing sound. That would probably indicate a vacuum leak.
I made sure all vacuum and crankcase breather lines were tightened down, after reading a post here on that subject.

The factory intake piping, all the way down to the fender, that got removed has several 'resonator' chambers and baffles in it. I thought those missing items might be causing the 'hum' noise. But the hum doesn't change with RPM increase - it just goes away with the increased engine noise.

That's why I thought it might be the ECU mount, as that's the only other thing that got changed.
The original ECU mounts to the side of the plastic air filter box, which would tend to isolate it.
Now with the kit mount, the ECU bolts solid metal to metal to the bracket which bolts solid to the former metal air cleaner box mount.

I think I'll try to isolate the ECU mount to see if the humming noise goes away.
If it doesn't, I'll just have to live with it.
It's not that annoying, it just didn't make that sound before the SRI install.

love that little 'huff' it gives!
.. I cant think of anything that would be making the hum except the actual SRI breathing.. maybe something is rattling at a high frequency, sounding like a hum?

Try unbolting the ECU mount and just holding the ECU while the car sits at idle. That should tell you if it is the mounting.

most likely its just your intake ... mine resonated a very high pitch sound....people always looked like what the .... then when i stuck my foot in it they jumped as it growled...hehe

mine would make it at idle and when you shut off the car...very noticable but only at idle and shutting down not when it had a load on the motor(ie driving or getting on it)

Ok I know this is an older thread, but I just pieced together my own custom SRI, and I have the EXACT SAME hum! No matter how many times you revv it or get your foot into it, it remains. I am about 99% positive that it's just the intake tube along with the filter. I am 100% sure that it's not the ECU. I just want to know how the ECU is relocated for the AEM SRI from the Canadian Dealership...???

i have the weapon r as well and it humms too, the ecu bracket for the aem intake is probably a clever bracket that the guys at weapon r were to lazy to make lol thus why mine is half on, im gonna but the aem intake when i get enough money i found it on a site for 250 so its not too bad...

250 bucks for a peice of bent pipe and a filter is bad. your just paying for exclusivity of the product. notice how hondas sell 05 cai for like 20 buckson ebay with good filters??? thats because more variety of product brings demand down and subsiquently price. make your own and buy a few tanks of gas with the savings

I just finished the install of my custom sri. I say custom cuz I bought the pipe and put it together myself and made my own ECU bracket and mounted everything. Looks good if I do say so myself. I'll post some pics tomorrow if I can remember. I just wish I didn't have the hum. It's almost such a loud tone that it is close to hurting my ears. But I can't hear it inside the car unless I'm listening for it.
