I found out today while getting out of my car that there was a coolant leak by the sweet burning smell. I got home and checked under the hood. I was horrified when i discovered the nice calcium and mineral deposit the formed around my coolant return line at the engine. Has anyone had this problem? I would have assumed that the dealership would invest in a little bit of money and slap some distiled water in there instead of tapped water. I hate cheep skates.

Dear PDI,

LOL! Distilled water at the dealership and every other auto service shop disappeared about the time that maintenance free batteries were invented. You probably don't remember those, but the time was when the top of your car battery had 6 little caps that had to be removed, fill level checked monthly and filled to the level mark with distilled water. Many shops deliberately used tap water with full knowledge that the minerals would kill your battery 1-2 years quicker.

Just be glad that they actually added water and antifreeze when the coolant was low.

How old is the hose? 3 years or more, buy new and replace. You definitely want to install the worm screw drive hose clamps instead of the Hyundai factory spring clamps. The spring clamps lose their spring, but the worm holds forever.
