hi im new and i wanted to install the b&m short throw shifter on my 08 hatch. i found it at hyundai asscessory store for $130. so i called up hyundai to ask about warranty and she had told me that if i do it myself and i pinch a wire or something like that and some time down the road something happens it wont be warranted. so i called the dealer and said it would be $200 for labor. what would u do. thanks

thanks everybody for ur input i will make a decision on what to do. thanks

i havent done it. but i hear estimates of 1-2 hours depending on mechanical ability. and once you take it out you should know how to change it again. beware of the swap thing. if something does go wrong when your not at home you dont have the option to fix it and if something goes wrong with the shift mechanism and hyundai has to take it apart and they notice changes in bolt paint, lock tight, bolt wear ect. they will assume its been tampered with and void warranty

I've got one of these shifters on order and the parts man said it would not void the warranty( it's a Hyundai part). However, if you install it incorrectly and it causes a problem with transmission, yes there could be issues regarding the transmission warranty. I have installed these short shifters in other cars, but they were not Hyundais. I have looked at the installation instructions for this shifter. While a little more complicated than some, I don't see a problem, as long as you take your time and install it per instructions. Definitely keep the old shifter for re-install if necessary. As far as installation time is concerned, it would probably take about an hour or so the first time.

The install is pretty straight forward. I did it and it only takes 45mins to an hour. You'll need a dremel type tool to remove the old captive washer. The instructions are clear. One of us posted a scan of the instructions a while back. A simple search will find it.

it doesn't take more than 1 or so..i did it yesterday..the only problem i had is to cut the washer...which was a BIG PAIN to me since i forgot where i put my dremel tool...but other than that, it is very easy to install. Good Luck With it!

Install it yourself.

I love it, you are going to feel the change of it immediately. The stock one is just too large.

Its pretty easy. Just get ALL the tools from the instructions or it could be a pita.

If it is possible to cut it.
it wont work as good as the B&M, guaranteed.

Thats BS! they cant void your cars warranty because you installed a shifter. the only thing that could happen is the warranty on the shifter itself gets voided, but who cares?

You can cut the shifter down. In order to disable the reverse lock out you just remove the collar and the lower plastic sleeve. It would be just like the B&M shifter install because you have to transfer the plastic sleeve to the new shifter from the stock one. KFXperformance has a short shifter for the Rio which is the same as our cars. Their short shifter does not have the reverse lock out.

It took me about and hour to do it. The only hard part was cutting the lock washer off the stock one.

lol, its just a piece of plastic that you have to pull up in order to get to the reverse gear because there is another plastic blocking its way if you just pull it straight.

Good luck cutting the shifter, lol.

I hope you dont end up buying the B&M one. :harhar:

No cutting the stock shifter will do nothing beneficial except lower the height of it.
Thats not the purpose of the shifters. The b&m shortens the throw a lot. a cut shifter would not shorten the throw.

Not to mention the B&M stiffens up teh shifter a lot. Getting rid of that rubber feel in it.
