Hello Everyone,

2001 Sante Fe 140,000Mi

Need some help again. My A/C compressor is shot, but no money to replace that.

The last few weeks or so my fan would only really blow on high, there was only a trickle coming out of the vents when on any setting but high. Occasionally it would not blow at all unless I wiggled the knob a bit in the dash. Then it would come on.

Today however nothing at all. From reading here in the forum I am guessing it is the blower switch. Is this what you guys are talking about?

2001 HYUNDAI SANTA FE 2.7L 2656cc V6 FI : Heat & Air Conditioning : Blower Motor Resistor

Thanks in adavnce,
Victor

Ok...

I think I have answered my own question, I got in the car this morning and the fan turned on for a brief moment, so I started messing with the switch and if I put some pressure upwards on the switch (knob) it works.

I am going to take the assembly apart to see if it may be a bad ground/ loose or bent contacts.

I will post my results for others that may have similar problems. It may take a little while before I can get to it though due to work.

Victor

The dealer replaced this entire three-knob control assembly (PN 97250-26550-CA) three times while my 2001 Sante Fe was still under warranty. But it's out of pocket now, so when I started having the same symptoms (fan cutting on and off -- stays on when pressure is applied to the fan control knob), I decided to open up the panel myself. It comes out easily. Remove two screws behind the ash tray and then pull the trim out. It may take a little pressure to break it away from the friction tabs. Next, unscrew the control assembly from the trim from the backside. Disconnect the fan and control wire harnesses.

Now that you have the control assembly out, remove the insert from the back of the fan control knob. I had to cut away two of the plastic tabs on the inside corners, but there are three left to keep it once you get it back together. As you remove this insert, be careful not to lose the spring. Last, clean the copper contacts and apply an anti-oxidation compound (can be found at hardware store -- commonly used to fill wire nuts to improve conductivity).

Closed it back up, reinstalled it, and haven't had the fan cut off one time since!

Jmc,

Great input on fixing this switch. Have you considered creating a Do-It-Yourself thread?
