At speeds above 55 mph or so, I get a lot of air (wind) noise leaking through the driver's window. I thought to try some application of silicone spray on the seal, but I wondered if anyone else has had this problem and found an effective remedy?

I just read your response. I applied silicone spray to the vinyl seal around the window frame and while it didn't eliminate the noise, it diminished it quite a bit.

Dear rgma,
A sure way to stop your wind noise is to adjust the door strike mechanism. If you simply loosen the door strike screws on the driver's side a half turn (will need a large Phillips screwdriver or hand impact tool), tap the door strike in toward the center of the car by 1/8 inch, retighten the two cross head screws, the noise will be gone!
