What do you guys think about this LPG fumigation? Came across a website in the local paper advertising this.

Claims to improve efficiency by burning more diesel fuels whilst allowing for 20-40% more HP.

It costs $2200 and there's a $2000 government rebate.. so you'd only be $200 out of pocket.

What are your thoughts?

Jess

I like the idea and they seem to be able to substantiate their claims.

I wonder if I could get a $2000 rebate :whistling:

I also Asking hyundai via email regarding this "D-GAS" technique., here what they send me

Dear Mr Tan,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please read below Hyundai's position on LPG Conversion.

Following the Government announcement on 14.8.2006 of rebates for cars
fitted with LPG, there has been unprecedented interest from our customers
on the subject.
Customers should be advised to take all the below facts into account before
making a decision to fit an aftermarket LPG conversion to a Hyundai
vehicle.

Q Does Hyundai offer cars powered by LPG?

Hyundai do not offer cars powered by LPG as original equipment in the
Australian market, nor does Hyundai convert new or used models to run on
this fuel.

Q Would converting my Hyundai to LPG affect my warranty?

If a customer wishes to take advantage of the Government rebate, they must
arrange to have the conversion done by a specialist conversion business.
Any such conversion will not affect the vehicle warranty unless a component
failure is caused by the conversion or if the component failure is part of
the conversion. Hyundai cannot warrant third party workmanship or
components.

Q Would my Hyundai's fuel economy be affected?

Hyundai vehicles are calibrated to make the best use of available petroleum
fuels (including E10). This ensures the car's driveability, economy and
most importantly, emissions are optimised.
This calibration is locked into the Engine Control Module and cannot be
changed. These vehicles DO have the ability to adapt somewhat to most fuels
used, however, LPG may lie outside this ability to adapt, so the onus would
then be on the LPG fitter to ensure the car complies with all emission
controls. Remember, at law, the final requirement to meet Government
Emission Rules rests with the vehicle owner in the case of a modified
vehicle.

Customers should be warned that the calorific value of LPG is different to
petrol, and so a reduction in L/100kM can be expected. The lubricity of LPG
is less than petrol (LPG is often described as ‘dry') and so the car should
be driven on petrol periodically. Some modern LPG injection systems
actually start the car on petrol and change over to gas when the engine is
warm for this very reason.

Q Would converting to LPG affect my Hyundai's driveability?

The ignition characteristics of LPG differ to those of petrol and therefore
the amount of ignition advance required at varying RPMs and engine loads
differs. This may cause driveability difficulties or pinging on engines
without knock sensors. LPG combustion occurs at higher temperatures, so
abnormal combustion can result in significant engine damage. On engines
with knock sensors, a reduction in performance may be experienced.

Kind Regards

Jessie, were have you been? i have been waiting to hear how your dad's i30 was going?
Jessie i have known about LPG used in conjunction with diesel since b4 you were born :)
i think it was back in the 80's or late 70's i meet a Cowboy truckie that did the syd melbourne and sometimes brisbane run ke had LPG gas tanks on his kenworth and it was a big HP rig that flew, he told me there was only three like it in the world, they were testing to try alternate fuels, at that time he could only run it with LPG for about 1/2 an hour at a time as was testing it out, but he said turn on the LPG going up hills and that truck just flew up them :) i think it was a 450+HP . then a friend of mine had LPG stickers on his number plates on a Sprinter van he has converted to a mobile home, i asked him if it was diesel or petrol he said its a 2.2 Diesel runs the LPG and diesel at same time, only uses small amounts of LPG, but gets 20% better economy and 20% more power he knows what he is talking about as he is a racer engine builder of many moon's. so i know he would not say it was good if it was not. but you need a small LPG gas tank. what it does is cause the diesel to atomise more and this helps a more compleat burn so get more use from your fuel and makes more HP and use less fuel. it would be ok with particulate filter too as less smoke.
ask hyundai not the dealer i could not see why it would hurt the motor would be better as less carbon. but they may not know about it as i think it's only here in Australia it has been used.
good luck girl!
