When I am driving the headlights will be bright and then all of a sudden go dim and then go bright. What causes them to do this?

Something is draining power from your battery and since you didn't give much info, when does it happen? In my 02' I have a 1400watt amp connected and if I turn up volume to high, all the lights in the car can dim in and out because the amp is drawing lots of power.

I don't have a sound system to draw power from my battery, so that is not it. It use to do it when I was driving but I have not seen it do it lately. But I still wonder what was making them do that?

OK. I know when they go dim now. The headlight sand the dash lights go dim when I turn the heat or air on!

Give your battery terminals and connectors a good cleaning - there's a good chance that will stop it if there's nothing wrong with your alternator. You can go by any AutoZone or similar place and they will check your charging system for free.

The early Sonatas and Santa Fes had pretty marginal capacity from their integral Bosch alternator/regulator units. My 2001 SF GLS 2.7 had the regulator die, so the whole thing had to be replaced (ka-ching!) I got it upgraded to the later spec model. The thing is that if it can't regulate the voltage well at max load, your battery gets huge surge currents, which it doesn't like. Get both the regulator and battery properly checked out (not just a quick static voltage check).

also try sears, many walmarts also do charging system checks, too...
