Has anyone upgraded their wheels and tyres. I will be getting the slx and wouldn't mind changing both the tyres and wheels and am interested to know what trade in values might be? I know I can upgrade these through hyundai but only to the 17inch and I would prefer to stick to the 16 due to the extra $$$$ all round for 17's.

Hi Loujohn,

I've got the SLX Crdi and initially wished I had done a deal to upgrade to the SR wheels (although have since decided the extra cost of replacement 17" tyres and slightly harsher ride would have made that a poor decision)

The 16" wheels and Tryes have really grown on me. I had a play with different styles of wheels in photo shop and reckon that Hyundai got it pretty right for the styling of the car and the tyres are better quality than their name or tread pattern would indicate.

They hang on well in the wet or dry and are relatively quiet and compliant.

In summary for what it would cost to upgrade I doubt it would be worth it (Sorry, just my opinion)

Regards,

Dazz

If you have a picture of a particular style of wheel you want to trial on an i30 send me a clear pix and Ill post a modified photo or two!

Thanks for that Dazz. I have also been checking up on prices etc and don't really want to part with more money but as I am getting the Vivid Blue car I thought something with some crome on it would look great. I am already suprised at the cost of replacing the 16" tyres opposed to the 15" that were on the sx that we originally ordered. I have a tyre place to go to that will trade in the wheels and tyres so I will do my sums but stick to the 16".

Have you seen the brochure for the i30 accessories? some of those 17" upgrade wheels are **** nice, no 16's in the brochure though. :-(

The 17x7 chrome inserted of the SR cost $780 -$850 EACH . Different dealer has different price . I got a quote for $850 at one dealer, and $780 at another one.

I was in Sydney near the Town Hall, there was a young guy in a car with a flat tyre, he could not get the wheel off, i tried to help, problem was he had one of those lock nuts and could not find the fitting to remove it. i told him i could just break off his wheel stud if he liked. it is not that hard. if you really want to stop someone taking your wheels put those wheel locks on they might help. but mate. who would want to go to the trouble? as not many i30's around and would be hard to sell and what would you use them on other than a i30? $2000 is cheap they pay $5000 for one carbon fiber wheel. most of the cost is everyone trying to make money and they know, you can't get them anywhere else.
but they are just wheels you can't look at them while you drive mate :)
Cheers

A quote from my owners manual:

QUOTE
Particular attention is drawn to the fitment of replacement road wheels having a different specification to those installed in production. The electronic power assisted steering system is specifically programmed to operate only with the road wheels fitted during production. The installation of alternative specification road wheels may result in the replacement road wheels fouling the vehicle body resulting in tyre damage and compromised safety. The installation of after market wheels on vehicles equipped with TPMS may result in wheel balancing difficulties or malfunction of the TPMS system

Just a thought...
