New record, y'all!

380.5 miles with 9.76 gallons fuel up with 6 or 7 top-offs. Equals to 38.7 MPGs. :):):)

Holy high mileage, Batman! I sure hope I can manage mileage like that once mine is broken in... My first tank of gas averaged only 25 mpg. It's disappointing to me because in my previous car, a 2001 Tiburon 5 speed with 104k miles, I was consistenly getting 26-27 mpg and I drove the crap outta that car every time I got in it.

It may be because I've been granny driving it. Do you think it might improve if I start driving it like I drove my Tiburon? My Accent is an auto, btw.

LilBean, if you're too slow off the line, an automatic Accent can be pretty thirsty! Out on the highway it seems to respond well to driving like granny but in stop & go traffic around town you might see better numbers if you let it get itself into higher gears sooner. The more I'm paying attention to it the more I see the automatics just aren't the greatest city cars. They can shine on the highway though... :) It's all a delicate balance between going too slow and pushing it too hard, try experimenting with different techniques and you should find something that works. :)

Give yours time to break in (took mine around 6K.) 38 for a tank is definitely doable with the automatic on the highway.

25 mpgs is entirely too low for this kind of vehicle. My first fuel up I got 34.4 and went up from there.. Check for excessive idling or maybe running it too hard off the start line. Not that I am implying you're a bad driver, but you should get at least 10 more MPGs. Also, check your AC usage - that kills fuel economy too. :)

just finished with the experiment today

A = 640.9km
B= 333.0km
liters = 29.996

km/L = (A-B)/L

km/L = 10.2647

according to this site
http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html

mpg = 24.14

pretty low

Hi rondy...Generally, shifting in the 3000+rpms shouldn't get the best MPG. But it should get OK MPG if you have to accelerate faster than a driver whose trying to get the best MPG.

I live in the deep south, with temps already in the mid 90s, and humidity in the 90 - 95% range... A/C is not simply an option, its a neccessity. Trust me, if I could stand to go without A/C, I would.

Hmmm...after going to town a few times and a good run tonight I decided to add some fuel and see what kind of mileage I'm getting. Now keep in mind this is the first time filling the tank and it was only half empty but my suspicions were confirmed.
344 Km on 22.67 litres and this is mainly highway miles with the A/C on about half the time. This actually works out to 15.17 Km per litre, 6.59 L/100 Km, or 43.1 MPG Canadian...or one third what I was using in my pick-up :banana: :w00t: :grin:

Stay tuned.....I will have two results from two different open road runs tomorrow night.

My first run was done last week. I'll get into more details later, but my end result was 35mpg. This time I'm hoping for 36-37.

Don't blame you there, the humidity is gross enough up here - can't imagine what it's like way down there...

Anyway, about excessive A/C usage: It's old news to some here, but I figure I'd bump up the little A/C trick for our new friends... the compressor runs whenever you're using defrost so if you're in a situation where you really don't have to have to dehumidify the air you can turn it off. If you need to keep the humidity out, you want the compressor to run. But if it's dry out and you just want air blowing from the windshield vents (I often do!) and don't really need the A/C to run, you have options... :grin: link

Well, I filled up today after my little test. I have been shifting right about 3000 RPM to 3200 RPM, my fuel light came on at 310 Miles not KM, lol. I went and filled up 9.500 Gallons to the point, and did the math. I did 32.63 MPG this tank, and that was with conservative driving as far as shifting and not mashing the gas pedal at all. BTW that was 96.5% City driving and 3.5% Highway, what little I did (usually no more than 5-10 miles very rarely). And I have a Manual which helps too. Best MPG I have ever seen out of this car!! I am gonna destroy the MPG this tank. It killed me not to hammer it. Lol. I will still be conservative for the majority of the time unless I have to get on it, or want to. I will give another update on the MPG with the long haul when I do my trip to Vegas and back (with and exhaust on this time, lol).

Just filled up on Saturday. Last tank I used 8.748 US Gal., filled it till it was up to the top of the filler neck and running down the side of the car, I knew I had good fuel economy that tank and didn't want a bad reading from a short fill. I went 350.9 miles for an average of 40.112 miles per US gallon! I was averaging about 60-65 mph on the interstate most of the time. I also had about 20% in town stop and go driving.

Just fueled up for the first time:

289.2 Miles (90 Highway, 199 Around Town - 30/70 split)
10.151 US Gallons
28.49 MPG

I'm pretty pleased with that. I'm hoping it will go up a bit after break-in... but even if it doesn't I'm still saving gas money over my last car.

I'm on my third tank of gas and the MPG has gone from 23 MPG the first tank to 30 MPG the third tank. It's really more like 2 1/2 tanks. It is improving.
